Hi everyone - very new to these boards.

We (three of us, Wife, 12 YO Daughter, me) will be arriving late on a Friday night and departing mid-day on the following Tuesday, so basically 4 day, 4 nights. We're psyched.

Anyway is the Quick Service Dining plan a good idea for us? We don't need to go to sit-down restaurants, we like to be on the go and eat when/where the spirit moves us - don't want to be tied down to restaurant reservations because we love to ride rides and see shows etc.!

The QSDP was quoted at $360 for the trip, so 2 QS meals & 2 Snacks per day, plus the refillable mugs...we're staying at ASMu.

Thanks so much for your advice!!!

Dan

We love the QSDP. Like you, we don't like being tied down to TS reservations, though we'll suffer through it for free dining. :rotfl:

Something I really like about getting a dining plan is that it gets me out of the mode of thinking about ways to cut costs. I don't just split a meal with one of my kids and end up eating something I wouldn't have necessarily chosen in order to save money. I'll get an actual drink rather than a glass of water (though sometimes I'll get a bottle of water so I have it for the park). I won't skip dessert which I normally would do because I'd be trying to save money. Having a dining plan allows me much more freedom.

This is just how it works for me. Some people prefer to not be tied down to any plan and find that having a plan at all is too restrictive. Sit down and really think through how your family likes to eat and decide if it works for you.

Here are the two basic ways we like to work the plan.

Breakfast CS meal, use my refillable mug for coffee, get either a yogurt or juice with a bottle of water for the parks as the 2 drinks, or just get 2 bottles of water for the drinks. DH will sometimes get a capachino or mocha drink (Pop has this; I don't know if all do).
Lunch we don't do a real lunch, we just use snack credits. There are some great snacks around the parks that are quite filling.
Supper CS meal. If we're at the resort, I'll use my refillable mug again and get more water for the parks or an interesting drink for my kids. I'll often bring my dessert back to my room for an evening snack or I'll get a snack that's non-perishable for some other time or even to just toss in my suitecase to bring home later.

Breakfast snack credits; you can get all sorts of baked goods using snack credits. With the refillable mugs, you can get your coffee. Cereal with milk is also only 1 snack credit.
Lunch early CS meal at a park (early avoids the crowds and allows for the fact that we didn't have a huge breakfast).
Supper CS meal; same comments as above.

Hi Dan, and WELCOME!! :wave2:

We used QSDP for a week last month, and it worked GREAT for us!

Lots of folks use snack credits for bfast, but we always had a big high-protein plate at the Pop food court, then either had a late lunch or early supper. After looking over all the menus on allears.com, I knew which places my crew would be interested in, and was able to steer us to whichever one we were close to in the parks when we got hungry.

We also had the chance to visit a couple other resorts to sample their CS. Had bfast at Poly one day (Tonga Toast!!), and dinner at POR (turkey dinner and a make-your-own pasta, all very good) on our last night, in order to catch the Yehaa Bob show (worth a visit, if you have the time!).

We did fill our mugs to-go in the a.m., and after a quick rinse stowed them in the backpack while touring. A few times we got free ice water and added sugar-free powder mix (Wyler's, Crystal Light, Hawaiian Punch, etc).

Although we did stop for snacks and cold drinks whenever we wanted, we STILL had a dozen snack credits to spend for treats to take home (Mickey Ear Rice Krispy Treats, and pretzel rods from Goofy's).

There are plenty of hearty meals available, and we never went hungry... especially since we had all those desserts! My DN mostly stuck with hamburgers and pizzas, but DH and I had only one pizza the whole week (the Veggie Pizza Combo at Pinocchio's Village Haus sits easy on the tummy, good for hot weather), and no burgers!!!

We gave the QSDP :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 , and hope it works out as well for your family. Enjoy your trip!!!

I think the QSDP is a fantastic idea. You get 2 CS meals-which can be quite good-and 2 snacks-which can be quite filling. For me, I like using the DDP b/c I know everything is all paid for so less stressing over costs while I am there and everyone can get what they like, not what is "cheap".
