Wanted a quick and easy treat for my kids and the clearance rack at the store had Pound Cake and Angel Food cake. My mom always used angel food cake. I couldn't decide between the two so I bought them both. Brought them home and the kids can't decide either!

So, which do you prefer?

Pound cake with strawberries and whipped cream. Angel food cake (torn up) with vanilla pudding and/or yogurt and berries. (Strawberries, blueberries, blackberries) we layer it like a parfait.

I voted other. I like pound cake and angel food cake equally well- just don't make my strawberry shortcake on biscuits- ICK!

I prefer pound cake.

That said, once a friend and I made strawberry shortcake for 350 and we did angel food cake. It was definitely more cost effective and very quick and easy. (Well, if you don't count the baking time since we each had two pans and and had to do 7 rounds each.) We found boxed mixes for 99 cents each.

I voted other because I would buy those little sponge cake cup thingy's that they sell near the strawberries.
If not, I would use pound cake. No to angel food.

I voted "Other". My favourite is just plain white cake (from a mix is absolutely fine). It's lighter than pound cake or short cake but has a little more body and a lot more flavour than angel food. Mmmmmm - a nice fresh white cake, whipped cream with alot of vanilla and strawberries macerated in sugar and a little tiny bit of lemon or organge zest - mmmmmm!

Totally agree!

I like to make strawberry shortcake in a trifle bowl, using torn up chunks of angel food cake, with rows of sweetened strawberry halves clinging to the sides of the glass bowl. Looks complicated but it's very easy and very elegant, o.k. it's show-offish. Between the layers of cake I use:

8 oz cream cheese, softened
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1/3 c fresh lemon juice
2 tsp almond extract
12 oz container Cool Whip

Mom would make "short cake" from Bisquick. I'm not sure if there was a recipe on the box or what. To me, it was a lot less sweet than store-bought alternatives. I would adjust the sugar somewhat, b/c Bisquick tends to be unsweet, even a little salty to begin with. But with the added strawberries and vanilla ice cream or heavy whipped cream, the result was delicious.

I like both but we usually just use those cheap little dessert cups that are sold by the strawberries.

Strawberries and whipped cream...There, no cake required. :rotfl: I actually prefer angel food, but the family likes the mini pound cakes.

We have used leftover birthday cake (all flavors) after scraping the icing off; biscuits, texas toast (dry), french baguette.

I like actual shortcake, which is kind of biscuity. The other options are regular cake.

I put "other" though, because often I just cook some pie crust that has been lightly sugared and cut into diamonds. It's kind of like strawberry pie, but quicker and can be assembled last minute and individually for more crispness.

Shortcake. I actually use a scone recipe, and if I'm feeling ambitious, I put some grated orange rind in. Sometimes I use a tea biscuit recipe, just depends.

Pound cake. Angel food cake tastes like eating a sponge to me.
