We will be in Orlando 1 day before our cruise and we decided to visit MK. We will be staying onsite for the night and then going to the park. I am thinking about doing the qs for the 1 day but I am not sure if it will save us money. We are 2 adults with a 10 year old (adult) a 7yr old and a 2 yr old.

What time more or less do you expect to arrive at WDW? Do you have an afternoon or at least most of the evening before plus a full day the next day? If so, you could calculate to spread the meals out over the 2 days. If you only arrive in the evening and depart the next day by the afternoon you may have some trouble using up your credits unless you grab a meal to take with you.

You would each get 2 CS and 2 snack credits for your stay. You also get your refillable mugs so you could grab bottled drinks to take with you into the park or for when you leave for your cruise.

I think for you, with a 10 year old who pays for adult plan, it all depends on your timing (arrival and departure). It could work out really well or it could be a waste.

We would arrive on Saturday late afternoon and would pay out of pocket for dinner. We would go to the park on Sunday and stay until park closing and then drive over to the hotel at the port for the cruise. So I guess we would only be using it on Sunday.

Personally I would try Chef Mickey's or Crystal Palace for breakfast.

They are not available for the times I want.

We have been to disney many times and have done all the places to eat. Since this is just a quick one day deal I was trying to decide if I wanted to add the quick service since we are there for one day and don't want to waste the time on sit down meals. We will do those when we go back in May for our 9 day trip.

I guess if you have a full day there it could work out in your favor to get the plan. I don't know that it will make a big difference one way or the other. Since you are not new to Disney or the dining plans, you will have a fair idea of food quantities vs what you are likely to eat.

Sorry, I guess this isn't much help :upsidedow

On the whole, length of trip shouldn't really be a deciding factor on whether or not to get a dining plan. It comes down to the same questions, whether it's 1 night or 14: Do any of the plans match the way you want to dine? Are you OK living withing the "confines" of the plan? Will it save money compared to OOP?

As someone with a plenty of Disney experience, you sound like you should be able to answer those questions, knowing your own habits and preferences.

Edited to add: of course, your answers to those questions might vary, even wildly, based on the length of the trip...

There's no way I'd use it (I prefer not to live within the confines of the plan) but you should add up what you want to spend it on, then you would know if it will save your party money based on where you will eat and what you might order. You'll be entitled to six snacks, will you use all those? Do you really need drinks to bring on the ship (if it's a Disney cruise, soft drinks, not to mention snacks, are readily available on the ship for no extra cost, and some other lines may not permit passengers to carry drinks aboard)?

Since you are choosing the quick service plan, part of the cost is the refillable mug - for one night you probably won't get your money's worth out of that, so buying your own QS might seem more attractive.

This is true, but with a short trip, especially one or two days, your arrival and departure time become a crucial influence on whether you have to work to spend the credits or not. With a longer trip, arriving late at night for example, would still give you several days or more to absorb the initial credits not spent on arrival.

For a one day trip, I would just pay out of pocket for the QS meals. At the worst, I think you'd break even paying OOP vs purchasing the QSDP but I really believe you'd come out ahead.
