Hello there,

I am hoping to hit DL next mid May (before Memorial Day weekend), and I have a few questions before I start my booking.

1) What is the weather like in mid-May? Is it warm enough during the day to use the hotel pool?

2) What are the crowds like?

3) How are the hotel rates? What category do they fall under? (in season, off season??)

4) What is the weather like in the evenings? Would I have to bring some sweatshirts?

5) If my hotel choice (The Candy Cane)is booked, what other similar priced alternatives would you ppl recommend? I want clean, close to the park, with a shuttle, a pool (if it's warm enough to swim), and some kind of breakfast.

6) How far in advance should I book the room?

Thanks for your help, and if anyone has any other advice, other than what I've asked, feel free to email me, or ICQ me at 9443054, just say you're on the DIS board so I will know.

Juliettte

PS, I changed the email that I had registered with, so please don't send to that one, please use juliette@juliasmail.com if you wish to email me.

Thanx!!

can't answer them all, but I'll answer those I can :D

I've been in early-mid May for the past two years.

1) YES! I would DEFINITELY say it's warm enough mid-day to use the pool. But the nights can get rather chilly so a sweatshirt or at least a warm jacket is a good idea for when the sun goes down.

2) For my tastes, the crowds are medium to high -- waits are typically at a minimum of 20 minutes, and the more popular ones can reach an hour or more. This is on a Saturday/Sunday only, though. During the week, the crowds are *much* smaller, and even Sunday night things tend to clear out. Expect them to be worse than in past years, though, with the opening of DCA.

3) Not sure on that one.

4) See #1

5) If you can get into the Best Western Park Place, I would recommend it for its location. You don't need a shuttle at all with it, because you're literally across the street from the walk-in entrance. However, chances are if the Candy Cane is booked, that will be booked also. It has a pool, though it's nothing to cheer about. I recommend STAYING AWAY from the Castle Inn and Suites, even though it's right across the street from the Candy Cane. By the way, the Candy Cane is within easy walking distance from the park -- it took about 5-10 minutes to reach the walk-in entrance when we stayed at the Castle Inn and Suites last May.

6) I'd say book as SOON as you know you're going. Otherwise, you could end up having very little choice in where to stay -- that's how DH and I ended up at the Castle Inn last May, and we weren't happy with the quality of the room there.

We were in San Diego in May '98. Not sure if L.A./Anaheim area gets the morning cloud cover that San Diego does. I wore a spring jacket every day but one. We also went to San Diego the following January and it was slightly warmer then.
Just going by past experience, I will have summer and spring clothes. If you have a rain poncho, save some money and pack it! (Even for the park water rides, if nothing else.)
My sis, who lives not too far from DL area, just called. She said they had an earthquake today. But DL is still there in one piece! :D
We are going to DL the week after Memorial Day. I have the airline tickets and a rental car booked. I am checking out our AAA tourbook for hotels. It is showing we are still in the off season at that time. I have not yet called any hotel and asked for pricing -- except on DL property. Not surprising, that was high. (I have the prices on another recent post here.)
Good luck!

I think May and October are the two best weather monthes we have. Usually not too hot and not too cold. Might get a little chilly in the evening, but not too bad. Small chance of rain, but most of our rain comes Feb-Apr. Anaheim is further in-land than San Diego, so it doesn't get the morning cloud cover that the beach does. The other time with clouds is June. There is only one forcast for the entire month of June: "Late night and early morning low clouds burning off to hazy afternoon sunshine". Should be a great time to come.
