please dont pack them in your carry on. i know thats not really funny but this post is cracking me up. We have an owners locker too and get it for the first time in july... like you I had to convince him.. once i said we could store a blender to make "drinks" he was sold. No more $10 mudslides!

OMG. I DO know better. I am shipping a box down for our OL!! But you reminded me of this one time that DH had to go to Copenhagen on business. I packed him, of course. It was January & I was thinking FRIGID cold, right so I wanted to make sure he was packed right. But so in his little black shaving kit I totally overlooked this tiny little like miniature size fake wannabe Swiss Army Knife thingy. It was really tiny (like maybe 1 1/2" in total). It was really a miniature size. It was something that we'd stuck in there for another trip so we'd have a scissor and since it was black it blended in with the bag & I missed taking it out. WELL...turns out Security at Dulles Airport pulled him out and threw him in a room for questioning...he almost missed his flight!! I heard about it for sure when he called me!! I can still picture him trying to blame his wife for the whole thing!!


(PS) I DID order some of the packing cube things and have been playing around with them. They are pretty nifty cool. I am quite impressed with how much stuff I can get in them!!

Hopefully these babies are going to teach me to be a more efficient packer so we can travel in carry-ons. Someone posted about them on a thread I had started about using space bags - they said they used the Eagle Creek Packing Cubes... I just ordered the eBags brand 'cuz they were cheaper than the Eagle Creek ones. I am going to try rolling my clothes when I pack rather than folding & making stacks. I plan to use 2 larges per person - one for tops & one for bottoms. Then I can just take the cubes out of our bags, fold back the lids and set them into the drawers. Depending on which carry-on bag I'm dealing with I can fit 2 larges + a medium or 2 smalls + a couple pr. of shoes/sandals.

The ones I ordered came already so I started playing around with them a little bit just to see what I could do with them. I found that I can get about 12 of DH's T-shirts in a large cube and with my stuff I got 3 pr. of capris & 8 pr. of shorts in one!! I was able to get 10 of my summer tank tops / T-shirts in a medium size!! Now of course if we were to travel in winter they wouldn't hold as much stuff as winter clothes are heavier & bulkier. (I am going to bring some of the space bags for the dirty laundry.) I think overall, packing for FL weather is going to ROCK now!!

Does the eBags link I posted not work?? If not, go to eBags.com & search for packing cubes. No, they don't replace your luggage. They go inside it to help you organize & pack more efficiently. I also have a heebie jeebie thing about putting our stuff into the drawers so they will be good for me as you can just set them in the drawers and not really "unpack".

Thanks for the info on the packing cubes. Ebags has the burnt orange ones on sale today for $14.99. I ordered a set as these will come in handy for our upcoming trip since we have several nights at different hotels.

I ordered the discontinued burnt orange colored ones for us too (1 set of the 3 diff. sizes for each of us plus 1 set of just 3 larges). They are sold out of the large only sets now in that color. (BTW, while it's not the most attractive color in the world who really cares? They go IN your suitcase and nobody sees them but you!) I wish now that I'd ordered 1 more set of the larges at that price. The other colors are like $25 for a set of the large. BTW, sometimes you can find coupon codes online for eBags.com to get like free shipping etc. Just do an internet search!


Hope - no beer cubes that I've seen! Don't forget to let me know how that flying with beer in your checked luggage goes!!

You sound like you could be my twin! I always iron everything right after the laundry is done so it hangs in the closet nicely. Then we pack it and the airlines toss and muddle up my luggage so much that it isn't PERFECT when I get it out at the hotel. I sometimes have to iron on vacation so that it doesn't stress me out to see the wrinkly clothes. Glad to know I'm not the only one in the world.

I am so glad to hear other "anal" people like myself iron then fold with tissue paper. I have also started using packing cubes, which help tremendously. I am thinking about leaving the t-shirts folded with tissue paper and inside of a packing cube with our new locker. I will have to let you know how that works out.

I may have been the person that mentioned these, as I recently posted about them on a thread somewhere. I stumbled across them while searching for a lighter suitcase (to enable me to pack more inside, over packer that I can be). I originally bought them because of all the glowing reviews - a big deal (for me) considering I thought they were expensive for something that didn't seem all that necessary.

Anyway, I now swear by them - they are great! I do have both the Eagle Creek and the e-bag brand ones; although there are some differences (mostly in the material used) each work fine. Anal as I am, I have purchased different color bags for each family member, usually adding sets as colors get discontinued. I also have the padded electronics bag, use the half and quarter cubes for different things like my laptop accessories or DGS's Leapster and accessories, etc. (I know, it's an obsession...) The flat folding Pack-It folders while expensive are really great, too, and really help reduce wrinkling. I have even packed DH's suits & shirts in them for business trips and with the printed instructions on the folding board he was actually able to fold them himself for the return trip. (He wears a size 48 long, so the suits are NOT small!)

I would suggest signing up for the e-bag emails. You'll get notice of their sales as well as special offers. They also have a (no cost) frequent buyer type program, where you earn points for dollars spent. Alternatively, they also participate with some airlines' frequent flyer shopping programs, although unless there is a really sweet mile multiple offer I usually prefer the discount over the miles.

I ordered one of the Eagle Creek folders too - figured it would be good for things like DH's collared shirts & stuff that he wears to dinner. That little folding board looks slick. This way everything will be folded to exactly the same size. They emailed me to rate the products which I did and I got an additional 20% off sitting there waiting for me...I think I will order some more cubes with it!!

This thread has really made me smile! I iron before I pack as well... DH thinks I'm nuts. And then I usually iron the same stuff before it gets worn! I know, I know... we're on vacation... but I just can't stand that "just rolled out of bed" look!

We're taking the Owner's Locker plunge this summer. My parents already ordered theirs for our May trip. We're going to borrow space in theirs until our June trip... we'll get ours then. The only skeptic so far seems to be my dad... but he's been coming around since he's realized all that he can leave in it. I think he's really loving the idea of getting on the plane with just a small carry on!
