Hi everyone, ::MinnieMo

I was just wondering:

1.How hot is disney during the time of the year?
2.How bad are the crowds?
3.Has anyone heard of any perks during theis period? (freebies, etc.) We're missing the free meals by just a little and are pretty sad! :crazy:

Hi,

From what I have read on these boards, it is very HOT and humid in the summer. Very crowded as well, but people are saying to go early in the morning and late afternoon. Maybe go back to your hotel in afternoon and have a swim.
After you come back from your trip, please post how it was, I would like to take the kids sometime in August!
If you check out the UG touring plans it will give you crowd levels and tell you which parks to avoid and best one to go to one certain days. The website is www.touringplans.com.
Hope this helps!

I remember the first time we went to WDW was in August (it was in 1987, so it was a while ago), but I remember quite clearly when the doors to the plane opened the humidity hit us like a tonne of bricks. We have not been back in the summer since 1990, we went one year in September (2002) and it was hot and humid then, and a bit more crowded then we like. You'll have fun no matter when you go.

I haven't been to Florida during August in many, many years but I remember the humidity/heat was pretty intense. The afternoon breaks and early morning starts sound like good ideas. Make sure you drink lots of water, it's really easy to get dehydrated (I've seen it happen even when its not that hot out, like in May).

I'm not sure about freebies ... but keep an eye on the DISboards and if there are any, you'll definitely hear about them :)

Thanks everyone for the facts. It's really hard for me to get away anytime other then the summer because I'm a teacher so it looks like summer time sun is what I'm going to get! Oh well..at least I'm at disney! ::MinnieMo

We were there at the end of August last year. I was DYING of the heat at teh beginning of the trip, but by the end I was okay. We're going to be there the same time as you this year! Last year the crowds weren't bad at all - WAY better than March Break this year. (We're teachers too. :) ) I think it will be a bit more crowded earlier in August but our APs expire on the 21st, so we're going earlier this year.

We were there the last week of August last year. It was hot. Here are some helpful tips to keep you cool. Buy a fan that sprays water. I bought a cheap one here before I went really wasn't that helpful. Bought the disney one good power and good spray. You can always go to a counter and ask for ice water, it is free and refill the fan/bottle. Also something that I did not learn until the end of the trip. Bring face cloths. Soak them in cold water and use it to cool down you face. I also put in under my hat or at the back of my neck. Made a huge difference. And drink plenty of water. No fun being dehydrated at Disney :) have fun.

Where did you get your fan? I've been looking for them in Canada but haven't found any. They're too expensive at WDW!

I got mine at Shopper Drug Mart, it was a little one but I found it was better to buy the big one at WDW. Yes there are expensive but by the second day I did not care. Comfort was more important. :crazy:
