questions about upcoming purchase

Just returned from a great stay at WL and decided to buy DVC. I have learned a lot reading the discussions but before I sign the papers (just received in the mail) I have some questions. I appreciate any help in answering them.

We were given the choice of the incentive to bring the price to $87 per point or 160 points to use now. Has anyone been given both incentives? Our UY is September so we won’t have any points until then.

How does the add-on work? From your discussions it sounds like there are additional incentives for that? Do you know when I would be eligible to do that? We are planning on purchasing 245 points – would it make sense to buy 150 points and then do a 120 add on?

We decided to purchase through Disney at SSR to maximize the number of years and minimize our involvement (i.e. sounds like a resale takes a little bit more time and effort). However, with 3 little kids we are planning on staying at BCV, BWV and VWL due to convenience. From your experiences do you think we will have trouble getting a ressie? We do not plan to go Xmas week or Easter week, might use them early March or August. Will need a one bedroom.

How soon will I be able to make a ressie? Do I have to wait until September?

When making a ressie do you need to have the amount of points for the ressie in your account or as long as they will be there by the date of arrival?

We are still a bit unsure about our decisions so your thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Hi! We just bought at SSR too! ( last week matter of fact!) You can take either of the incentives...only one though. We chose to takes the $ off the point price, plus maybe they did not tell you, but disney will also pay all of the dues for the rest of the year! (like you our uy is sept) so from sept-dec. the dues are paid for. You can make ressies as so as you have your member id...since you have your paper work you should have them. You can make ressies for anytime during sept or after. I made them the day we got our number!! Hope i've helped!! :flower:

That sounds like the current standard offer. There really isn't any room to negotiate.

You can add-on any time after you buy. What you suggest (buy 160 + add-on) is definitely possible.

If you're open to a 1B in any of those three resorts, I think you'll have little trouble for the time periods you list. You could always call and book a room at Saratoga Springs as soon as your trip dates are set, then try to switch to a different resort at 7 months. If there happens to be no availability when you first call, just go on the waiting list for a room. People's plans change all the time, freeing up rooms for those on the waitlist.

How soon will I be able to make a ressie? Do I have to wait until September?

You can call as soon as you are within 11/7 months of your check-out date. No need to wait until September.

When making a ressie do you need to have the amount of points for the ressie in your account or as long as they will be there by the date of arrival?

They just need to be available when you check-in. However, if the reservation will require that points be borrowed from another Use Year, they will be borrowed at the time you make the ressie.

IMHO, you will not have a problem getting a 1 bedroom for the times you list if you call as soon as your 7 month window opens. I would not count on getting a standard view or a Boardwalk view at BWV at 7 months - it could happen, but isn't likely.

So far, there haven't been a lot of posters reporting that they have had trouble getting what they want at 7 months. As SSR sells, this may change as more members want to stay at the smaller resorts. Even now, there are some times of the year, where you do need the 11 month booking window to ensure your first choice of resort, dates and room type & size. (Not yet true of early March or August, though). As long as you will be happy staying at SSR if you can't stay at your first choice, I think you will be happy with your purchase.

Best wishes-

I think you should ask your sale guide this question - the rules for SSR can be a little tricky if you have purchased an interest in a building that isn't available for occupancy right now.

Generally, you cannot stay anywhere on your SSR points until after your building is open and available for occupancy. Also, you generally are not allowed to borrow points until after you close.

There have been posts to the contrary, and even the CMs at MS are not consistent, so if you have a specific time in mind for that first trip, ask your guide the question. Specifically ask when your building will be open and if you can borrow ahead of closing if you want to stay before either of those events. There may be ways of taking the vacation that are exception to the "usual rules".

If you are getting developer points as part of your purchase (not sure what the incentive involves right now), there are different rules for using those points as well.

Best wishes -
