Questions about splash mountain

It has been years (like 25 years) since I've ridden Splash Mountain so I don't remember anything about it. I'm trying to convince DD11 to go on it on our next trip, but she's unsure of the big drop at the end. She likes to ride BTMRR and Everest, is the drop on splash any bigger or different than drops on those rides? How wet do you get? Neither of us want to get soaked, a little wet is ok, but we really don't want to walk around with wet clothes. Thanks!

If she can ride Everest, I think she can ride Splash.

It took me 5 trips to work up the nerve to ride SM. I hate drops, but my husband kept telling me it was the best ride at MK, and I had to see the interior. When we got to the lift hill leading to the drop, I definitely was starting to freak out. But then I looked into the distance at Cinderella's castle, raised up my arms and screamed as the log took its 2 second plunge down to the bottom. I think screaming really helped me. And afterward, I felt amazing. I was so, so glad I'd done it, and I love the ride now. The drop doesn't faze me (much).

Honestly, I think the backwards section of EE is more intense than the drop in Splash. You do feel the Splash drop more in your tummy than you do on BTMRR or EE, though. And there's a small, dark drop in the middle of the ride that comes as somewhat of a surprise. That one almost bothers me more because you can't see anything. You might want to show her the ride-through on youtube and see what she thinks.

As far as the water goes, you will likely get somewhat wet, so you should go at the hottest time of the day. I've never gotten soaked, but I've certainly seen people come off the ride whose clothes were pretty soggy. It really is kind of random chance.

Good luck! I hope she works up the nerve to ride. It's such an amazing experience! :goodvibes

It's hard to compare the big drop on Splash with Everest, as Splash is straight down and Everest is down with a curve. As far as scariness, I would think it's about the same. Splash just looks scarier since it's straight drop.

I do not like getting wet while touring, I will try anything to not get wet. For Splash the 1st row seems to get the wettest, 2nd row can still get quite wet. I like the 3-4th rows better, even then my shorts always get wet. I now wear a poncho and another poncho on upside down to put on like a pair of shorts and tie the material around the middle. I look ridiculous, I know. But I do not get wet!

Hi

I think it's as big as Everest although Everest seems faster. As for getting wet the worst part is waiting to go past the the drop at the start of the ride as there is a water spout which can soak you before you start, the drop wet wise is no biggie

I agree with the above posters in that EE is more intense than Splash. Much more intense, in my opinion.

As far as getting wet...I’ve come off of Splash completely dry and I’ve also come off looking (and feeling) like I had just jumped in the lake. Once, when I got completely drenched, there was a young couple (college age?) waiting to board. You should have seen the look of horror on the young lady’s face when she realized she would be sitting in my seat. It’s really the luck of the draw, but yes, you might get really really wet.

The drop in splash imo is no worse than the drop in Pirates. Expedition Everest, while not an intense roller coaster, is far more intense than splash.

The drop in splash looks much worse than it is

As PP have said, Everest is more, much more intense than Splash Mountain. You might *really* get wet though, it's the luck of the draw. I once came down the hill with almost no splash and didn't get wet, only to be blasted by one of the water cannons coming around the turn.

If you go in planning to get soaked you will be more surprised and have a great time if you do not. Getting absolutely soaked wont happen, maybe half a shirt at worst.

I didn't like going on this ride until I sat in the last row. I now request to sit there every time. We also place one poncho on the already wet seat before we sit down and hold the other poncho over the front of us so we don't get wet. I have never been on EE (still chicken) but I love BTMRR.

I can't do EE, ToT, RnRC and prefer not to do Space Mountain, but I can do Splash. The drop is one and done (there's a little teaser in the middle of the ride, but it's not a big drop at all) and I literally take a deep breath and the drop is over (did I mention I ONLY go on this ride for DS10?!). I wear a poncho on the ride and make sure I sit on it and wrap it around me in the front. I hate getting wet and sometimes you get more wet after the drop (if your boat stops by one of the waterfalls at the end). If you can do EE, you can do Splash - bring some ponchos!

Let me be the lone dissenter.

I could ride Everest 10 times. No problem

Splash? I hang on for dear life. I absolutely hate the drop at the end.

And wet? There is definitely a chance that you will end up soaking wet.

In splash mountain, after every drop the log will bob up and down in the water and usually water will come over the sides so if you raise your butt off the seat just a little you can dodge most of the water. Also don't sit in the front row because you can use the people in front of you to block the water coming over the front.

I don't think splash mountain is that scary ever since they put the lap bar in place

Looks scary, over quick. Agree with others in that it is similar to EE, but I feel EE much more than SM. The backward curve does it on EE. SM will be a tingle in your belly, but then everyone wants to ride again. Screaming is the cure - so make sure to be LOUD.

I love Splash and have never been afraid of the drop; it's fun (to me).

I rode EE once, 2 or 3 years ago. I'm glad I did it, but it was super scary (to me) and the drops felt SO steep! :scared1:

As others have said, the wetness level is luck of the draw, but I have never gotten soaked/drenched on Splash - unlike my one time on Kali River Rapids where I'd might as well have jumped in the river and swum around I was so wet.

Please don’t say things like this. It is absolutely possible to get soaked to the bone with every square inch of your clothing dripping with water. It’s happened to me before. It doesn’t happen every time, or to every person. I’m sure there are a lot of factors in play. But it very much can happen and it’s best for people to go in with the knowledge that it could happen.

I'm a thrill ride lover but I can see why people fret over sm drop, you walk right by it and it looks steep and fast. I think much of it is do to the proximity to the ride, on ee the ride is so much further away it's not as intimidating imho.
Have fun!

Came pretty close to happening to me as well.

Does no one else get hit with the water fall after the big drop?

I really, really dislike drops, and don't ride Expedition Everest for that reason (did it a few times on past trips and that was enough for me!) But Splash Mountain's drop is over quickly, and the rest of the ride is so worth it. The interior is amazing! Splash Mountain is an absolute must do for us every trip.

We do always put on rain ponchos and wear flip flops that we pack just so we can avoid soaked shoes. Without ponchos it's a gamble on how wet you'll get. Most of the time, it's not terrible, but not always!
