Questions about POR

We are already booked at POP for our 3/2006 vacation but after reading so many different reviews on POP I am thinking about changing resorts. I am leaning toward POR but was wondering how to go about getting a room in the Magnolian section? If we pay the extra for the king room do we get to choose which section we are in? I am not thrilled with being in the Alligator section, way to dark for me but like the other decor of the rooms. So does paying extra for the preferred rooms helps with getting the section of POR that I want? I hope this makes sense...thanks

I think Preferred usually refers to how close to the main area (food court, etc) the room is; not even sure if it actually applies at POR ,where Alligator Bayou actually has the rooms that are closest to the food court. BUT if it's important to you that you be in Magnolia, you can always fax in a request ahead of time and ask again at checkin. We actually prefer Magnolia as well and plan to request it, but if we wound up in AB that would be OK too-- you are only around the bend from the view you want, and it's such a gorgeous place to walk around and soak up all the Southern atmosphere that you will want to see it all.

Just request Magnolia when you make your reservation and again at check in. Most people don't have a problem getting the section (AB or Magnolia) that they want.

You know this for a fact? I do not think it is right to give the OP false hope, unless you happened to know something about requests at POR that is different from the other Disney resorts.

We just stayed at POR in June and requested the Magnolia section at reservation time and upon check in and had no problem getting it. There's never a guarentee, but we always try to checkin in the morning for a better chance. We are always willing to wait for a room to be cleaned if it's the area we want. Last December when we checked into the WL they had us in an area I didn't really like, so the CM said if we didn't mind waiting a 2 - 3 hours we could have exactly the area we wanted, so we did...I really think the CMs try their best to get you what you want. :earsboy:

I don't know this for a fact, as Disney clearly states, a request is just that, a request. However, I have only heard on one or two occassions of people not being ablet to get the side of POR that they want. Same as with non-smoking vs. smoking, most people get what they want. This isn't the same as requesting a particular building or room # or being close to this or that.

Regardless of what YOU think this is not giving the OP "unqualified" advice. Being on these boards for 4 years and seeing what people have problems getting, this is not one of them. Yes, there is a chance, but I have rarely seen it happen (hence why my post had the important word "MOST" in it). The important part of my post, which many people will agree with, is to make sure to make requests when you make your reservation.

We've always received our request at POR and POFQ. Not only which side at POR but have also received the building numbers we requested at both POR and POFQ. This emcompasses 8 total visits to these resorts.

As a matter of fact you are giving the OP false hope. A request is just that. Those of us that post on this board make up a very small percentage of the millions of people that stay at Disney resorts during a given year.

There is no way that you can say that "most" (meaning more than 50%) of requests are granted at POR unless you have access inside informaiton. To suggest that a request is anything more than that is not factually correct and does give newbies false hope.

It is not what I think. It is a matter of fact. We will have to agree to disagree and you can continueto giving people false hope. But, you cannot factually support your statement that "most" requests are granted. This is just your opinion nothing more.

Boy, someone got up on the wrong side of the bed this morning... :confused3

Since this is a message board, not Disney sponsered, the advice given here is just that, peoples personal experience. Take everything you read here with a grain of salt, but to start attacking someone for just trying to help a poster with a legitamite question, wow!

To the OP, just make a request at the time of reservation and at check in. According to my experience, and others on this board, it doesn't appear that you will have a hard time getting Magnolia Bend or Alligator Bayou. But be aware (disclaimer) that requests are not guaranteed, but Disney usually does their best to try and honor them :teeth:

I've stayed at POR (DxL) three times now. The first time I went I just wasn't knowledgable and didn't request any section....thought I just had to take what I was given. Then...I found these terrific boards and knew to put in a request when I reserved. Now I do. My experience has been that when I have asked for something pretty general I have been able to get it. I asked for a water view room in Magnolia Bend. And that was for 2 different families, asking for connecting rooms,no less!!! And I got just that...connecting rooms, water-view (although it was a peek, not a view, from the outside walk) in Magnolia Terrace. When we were there last June, I asked for AB, non-smoking. I got what I wanted, but it was too far back for me, so they put me in a different room in AB.
So, will everyone get what they 'request'? Maybe not, but to date, I have been very lucky in getting pretty much what I have asked for.
BTW....a waterview will not make your chances of getting a room in Magnolia Bend any better. This view could also be of a quiet pool, not just the river. Ask for a room in Magnolia Bend, a particular bldg if you choose (but I wouldn't) and see what happens. Requests are just that...requests.

"Tiffany"
Give it a rest. Stop attacking people for giving their best "opinions".
Do you go to WDW with that same attitude?

Thank you for all of the advice, I went ahead and cancelled my reservation at POP and had my TA booked us for POR. I did have her put on our reservation a request for the Mansion section and we are paying extra for the king size bed so I assume we will be getting that for sure since we are paying extra. But I do understand that a request is exactly that..a request and we will hope for the best when we arrive at Disney. I also thought that if we have to wait for a certain room then we can certainly do that since it will be just myself and husband. But thanks once again for the advice.

Wow Tiffany, for someone that goes to Disney World so much, I am surprised at all your negativity to someone giving friendly advice, and would not enjoy crossing your path if ever there. I have been a member on these boards for four years now, and may not post a lot, but I do review and take tips from these boards. I have always taken the posts by others as advice. I do not see puffkin's advice as false hope either, just giving her opinion's from past experiences like she said. If I were you, I would seriously rethink about attacking someone else who is jsut giving some helpful advice.
