I know you can only take 3oz on carry ons... is that total? or per container? That means we can't even take bottles of H2O? right? Buy them after your checked right?? Can you pack bigger bottles in your checked baggage? I like to bring liquid tylenol and motrin for the kids and they are 4 oz bottles is that ok in my check luggage? What about sun block?? (guess its not really a liquid):confused3 gonna need more than 3 oz!! Put my mind at ease and please tell me bigger bottles are okay if they are checked in luggage!
TIA these boards are soooo helpful! I can't imagine cruising without you guys!:grouphug:

As long as you check the liquids, it does not matter what the size. If you carry them on, you will need to put them in a quart size ziploc bag, one bag per person.

Right- and thats where the 3oz thing comes in.. if you carry them on. It has to be 3oz of EACH, not total.. the container can not be bigger than 3oz. Like the above poster said, if you check them, it doesnt matter.

That's an important distinction: The container cannot hold more than 3 oz. That means that a half-full 6 oz. container is prohibited.

Don't worry, in your carry on you can take as many 3 oz bottles as will fit into a quart size ziplock. You can have one ziplock per person and you need to take it out of your carryon and place it through the screening belt.

You can put as much liquid as you like in your checked luggage. So sunscreen, liquid meds and even shampoo etc is fine in your checked bags. I always double zip lock baggie them to protect my (and others) things in case of a leak.

Yes, you can bring water, soda juice etc purchased at the gate area, after the security screening on to the aircraft.

Here is a link to the TSA website for more information :

One caveat to that being the bag can't be stuffed too full. I try to keep mine to one layer of containers per bag.

It's actually been changed to 3.4 ounce/100 ml to come more into conformity with world-wide packaging standards.

And sunblock is generally a liquid unless you use the stick types.

Medicine, even OTC, is exempt from the 3 oz rule. Medicine doesn't have to be in your quart bag but should be separately declared.

Yep - you are so right. Unfortunately for me everytime I post 3.4oz I get an argument so I just kept it simple :)

I also wouldn't rely on each and every TSA employee being up to speed on the 3.4 oz requirement, and stick to 3 oz containers to avoid a lengthy debate even if I would win in the end.

what about makeup items such as stick eyeliner? It's not actually a liquid, more like a solidified cream. Also, solid deodorant, does it have to go in your quart size baggie? I am running out of room in my one ziplock bag.

If your liquid medicine is greater than 3 oz you do have to declare it to a security officer. I just showed him my medicine bag and he checked it. I had no problems As for sunscreen I usually just put it in my regular luggage sealed in a ziplock bag. I am packing a 3 oz bottle (store bought filled with my fav sunscreen) to carry on the plane with me. DH does this with his hair gel too. I would check out the tsa.gov website to verify what you can and can not bring.
Water or soda can be purchased and brought onto the AFTER you go through security. Don't buy your Starbucks coffee before security. They will make you throw it away. :(
