We are in the process of deciding about purchasing at SSR, and I have a question -

We watched the video and it doesn't show very much on HH - what is the area like? Is the resort on water? Although we would go to SSR, we also want to explore other resorts as well.

Thanks for the info!

HHI (the island) is shaped like a shoe. it is divided into what they call plantations. THese plantations are areas of homes, golf and tennis, and shopping and harbors. Disney's HHI resort is on the top of the shoe (maybe where the laces would be.) It is on water, but not the ocean. It is in the Shelter Cove section. Shelter cove is like an Itailian type villas and shops on a harbor with outdoor dinning. After you cross bridge from Shelter Cove you land on Disney's private island. It is very wooded with tall pines and moss draped Spanish Oaks. A very large marsh and river are on the back side. It is very pretty. Dolphins swim around back there. there are lots of activities to do on Dis' HHI. The resort has some of the best Cast Members in the entire Disney Company. Now to the beach. by car, bike or resort shuttle, a straight drive to the "private" beach house. The beach is very wide and hard white sand. (perfect for bike rides on the beach). If you are like us, then you don't need the activties. We just lay around at the beach and pool and the eat at one of the many Island rest. (you get a big dinning guide at check in to help you) Having a car is recommended but not needed. You can walk or bike to plenty of dinning places.

That sounds perfect for my husband, who needs some time to just unwind! He loves to lay by the pool or on the beach - if there are beach chairs available? And of course, some refreshments - are these things there or do you need to lay out on a towel? (he has a bad back, you see). All the restaurants sound intriguing also. thanks for the info - it makes lots more sense now.

If you are considering staying at HH every other year or so, I would suggest buying HH points instead of SSR. With HH as your home resort, you can book summers 11 months out, whereas b/c of SSR's size, you should almost always be able to book there at the 7 month window. Plus, you can get more HH points for the same $ and HH has the 3rd lowest fees behind SSR & OKW.

These are the reasons we bought HH over SSR. (And the driving distance to HH is about 1/2 that to WDW too for us.)

There is a snack shop at the resort pool and at the beach house. they serve salad, sandwich, burgers, hotdogs, nachos, wings,etc... It is can range in hours but mostly closes at 4pm. At the beach house is another "hut" open for adult bev. (you can not take beer/etc. to the beach.) The life guard on the beach, is an employee of South Carolina and not Disney. They rent lounge chairs with umbrellas. They will set it up for you. I have never rented these but i think they are pricey. Many people bring their own chairs. Some people who fly will buy cheap chairs from Wal mart on the Island and either throw them away or give them away when they leave.

one other note, all 1st floor rooms are actullay up one flight of stairs. (the resort is built on stilts. for obvious flood protection) There is only one building with a elevator. If this is needed you are better off asking for ADA reasons and booking a 1 bed or studio.
