Questions about DVC contract strategies

I would say mine was easiest as far as selling me but, I set up a delayed close and a payment plan and paid with 8 different credit cards 🤣
Gotta love those CC points and sign-up bonuses!

I’m sure they didn’t mind in the grand scheme of making the sale.

We set it up with 2 cards splitting each of 4 payments and we’re told we could switch payment methods by calling in shortly before each billing date.

As far as UY goes… this is one of the advantages of buying resale first.

The summer we bought VGF it started selling out. By the end of that incentive round guides were pushing back on certain UY for people who didn’t already own points with that UY.

I remember our Sept UY was one that changed during that sales cycle. By the end they were only automatically honoring it for people trying to match an existing Sept UY and telling others it was unavailable.
UY is a whole different thing that seems over complicated. I mean UY seems to specifically refer to the month you get your points. Why didn’t they call it Use Month? 😳

When looking at resale contracts, it’s a bit challenging to look at 24-25-26 UY points and decide what the best value is. Some of the Poly ones I look at have nothing for 24-25, and have a late UY. No points at all until fall of 26 seems like a tough sell.

It is use year as you have a whole year to use your points and not just a month.

In business corporations have fiscal years and this is the same thing basically. Most school systems have a year starting July 1st and ending June 30th where they have a certain budget for that period of time. If July was a use year this would be an example where your points have to be used by June 30th.

DVC has 8 use years. January, May, July and November are not available to pick as use years.

For those who have multiple contracts, do you try to keep the same use year (or close) for all your contracts?

Seems like it would be hard to track or possibly limit options if you, for example, had 3 contracts at the same resort with different UYs.

I personally keep them all the same as I book a lot of times at the 7 month window and this way I can easily combine them.

Others like @TCRAIG have multiple use years on purpose for when trips are taken.

For example you might have a BCV/BWV/RIV September or October use year for Food & Wine Trips and an April use year at HHI to book there in the summer.

Hot topic on the boards. A majority say same UY make things easier to handle. Some like more than one for more flexibility. Id say learn how the booking system for DVC works with your first contract before buying a 2nd UY.
If you search Use Year on the boards you will find many different discussions on it. But I know people will also answer you here too. We are a helpful bunch

We have always kept an Aug. UY it just makes life easier that way.At 1 point we had 4 contracts, now down to 2 and at 350 points I think we are done. OKW expires in 2042 we'll both be in our mid to late 80's and AKV 2057 .

I have one use year only to make it easier to combine points for reservations. I'd actually prefer a different use year, but I don't intend on ever getting a different one.

I also have 3 resorts. Some direct and some resale. There are both good and bad things about that. I'd say one resort and all points being either direct or resale would be easier, it's going to depend on how you use your points.
