Questions about DL and GCH on Christmas Day

We are planning to spend our Christmas at DL this year. We are DL veterans, but have never been there in December. We have decided to give ourselves a break from the extended family Christmas this year and stay at the Grand Californian from 12/22/2012- 12/28. We have stayed at GCH before and it is BY FAR our favorite.

I am hoping that someone out there can help me out with what to expect for Christmas. Everything I have read is old information and I know Disney betters itself every year.
I know there are crowds. That is why we decided to stay as long as we are; to give ourselves time to take everything in a relaxed (as possible) mannor.

I had a friend tell me that GCH does something special and gives gifts to all the children hotel guest on Christmas morning, but I can not find that in print anywhere. Is that true?
And when and where do they do the snow? Does it randomly fall on Main Street?
My girls are 10 and 12. What "special" things will they have for their ages?

And un-Christmas related question: Does anyone know what the GCH "garden" view is? Is it the area the Monorail passes through?

It snows on Main Street, by ROA, and by Small World. There will be "snowflakes" on the map to show the areas you'll get snow.

Thanks 3Ms and 1 M

Is it less crowded at the ROA than Main Street? The You Tube clips show a BIG crowd.
