Questions about dining plan

I am considering staying onsite for 8 nights this coming August and getting the dining plan. Is the dining plan good from the time of check-in until check-out? I'm unclear on how many meals this would give us.

Also, I will likely just get shorter 6 day magic your way passes since we have planned offsite activities. This doesn't affect the dining plan in any way, does it?

Unfortunately, it's not free during our vacation time but I'm still interested in trying it for the first time if I can make it work.

The dining plan is good from the time you check-in until midnight of the night you check-out. Your credits are based on the number of nights you are staying, so if you will be there for eight nights and have the regular dining plan, you will have 8 quick service meals and 8 table service meals per person. The number of days on your park tickets doesn't affect the number of credits you'll have.
