I have a few questions about Amazing Race. Feel free to join me with your own questions, share any answers add any juicy dirt .

1. How long is it from Pit Stop to Pit Stop?

2. Are contestants given water or any other food items?

3. When they are at a Pit Stop, it is a place anyone could go visit?

4. Are they treated to a meal at the Pit Stop?

5. Seems like lots of speeding in cars...are they warned about the speed limit?

I think they have 12 hours mandatory rest at the pit stops. They tell you this when they leave, they say "such and such came in at 12:03 am, so they are leaving at 12:03 pm".
Yes, they eat, they stay as a group and typically stay right there at the pit stops. Sometimes you will see them stay in a hotel, but that is when they have like 10 hours before a flight. They have money on them, so they can buy food or drinks, but they are given a certain amount of money for each leg of the race.

Almost forgot, yes they are told about the speed limits. I don't know the exact rules on that though, but I do remember one season why some were obeying it and some were not. I do not think they get penalized for going over, but not totally sure. They do get dinged if they take a cab when they are supposed to take a bus or walk. So instructions are key in the race as well.

there's a mandatory 12 hour rest period between pit stops. the actual legs vary pretty widely
2. Are contestants given water or any other food items?
at pit stops yes I think. otherwise on a leg if they stop to eat or dink they're wastig time
3. When they are at a Pit Stop, it is a place anyone could go visit?

4. Are they treated to a meal at the Pit Stop?
I think so, yes
5. Seems like lots of speeding in cars...are they warned about the speed limit?

it depends on wether they're driving themselves or in taxis and the road conditions.

Sometimes the Pit Stops are tourist attractions that anyone can vist. Sometimes they appear to have been private locations that they probably had to make arrangements for. For instance they may be arriving at the pit stop inside a building that is not usually open to the public, or in a spot there that is usually not open.


It is often not possible to tell how long it takes them from Pit Stop to Pit Stop. You often see that they are at least 2 days. They really edit it so you have no idea how much time there is, especially between the teams.

You do see them with water so I assume they buy that and keep it with them, or get it at the Pit Stops. Often they have long waits at airports, or until a location opens so I assume they get meals then, and probably have granola/Power Bars for eating in the Taxi's and times when they are actually racing but need a pick me up.

I am pretty sure, as someone mentioned that they have been penalized for exceeding speed limits. My guess is they are given some sort of rule about it and can't exceed it. I think there would be tons more passing if they could. I think they have to find a situation where they can pass without exceeding what ever limit they have.

I don't think they will unless another network on cable is doing an additional showing. Your best bet is online. You didn't miss that much in the first episode anyway, I can never keep track of the teams until they whittle them down a bit.

I'm with you, having trouble finding one to root for. There seems to be a lot of girl guy dating teams and I keep forgetting which team is which.

I'm fairly certain there is no general rule about speed limits. I do recall one specific task where they were driving on dangerous roads and there was a speed limit that needed to be followed.

I seem to remember in the beginning that the speed limits were to be obeyed, I am not sure if that has gone by the wayside but it seems to have.

Several episodes over the years show the racers eating and socializing together at the pit stops and then often grabbing snacks etc. at the airports, train stations etc.

Well, the couple from NY. It is a little bit of a turn around as he seems to be the needy whiny one and not her. He is really needy I already can't stand him.

I was only half watching it last night so that is all I picked up on. I will have to rewatch for details.

They are my oh my God I hate you couple guess. He is a royal pain. As soon as he didn't win the first run- (um isn't that your job?) I figured he was going to freak. And yep he did.

Already was an "aside" one between teams.Not the BIG one between teammates, yet. I'm thinking Mom&Dad&TheKids vs. NewYorkers...tagteam tongue lashings. I think the New Yorkers can take them. And as for the 4 vs 2-TheKids are just younger clones of the "Mom&Dad" ex football player & his "little wifey he cheated on". Did anyone else get sick of hearing how he cheated on her and has to regain her trust? Everytime they interviewed either of them-it came up. Geez. Talk about airing dirty laundry...might as well have just ripped the boxers and bras off and waved them around.
Lot of little snide comments. I wonder how they pick the contestants. Every race, there has been at least 3 couples I have thought "Huh??? What are they thinking?"
I still love this show. Having a hard time really liking a team, also. Right now, I am pulling for the "Long Distance Lovers" & "MommyBoy".

I know!!!! And then he got upset because she was talking to other teams instead of JUST him. And they are newly dating. She needs to tighten up those sneaks and runs fast as she can... from him.
