questions about 2012 new DDP rules (and substitutions)

I've noticed that a lot of people on these boards have mentioned being able to make substitutions on DDP. For example, instead of a dessert getting a bottle of soda or water. Also some people have reported being able to use a QS credit for 3 or 4 snacks instead of a QS meal.

In 2012 the Disney website is stating that there are no substitutions. I am wondering if this was always the official policy or if this is a change for 2012.

Has anyone tried doing substitutions for drinks instead of dessert or using a QS credit for snacks in 2012.

thanks for any info :goodvibes

DH and I were at Disney on the DP January 31 through February 3. By our last day, we were sick to death of dessert! I'm diabetic, so we very rarely eat sugary foods. I was able to cheat a little due to burning up carbs like crazy with all the walking, but even with splitting a dessert between the two of us and taking the rest back to the room, we just couldn't take any more sweet stuff. So at Columbia Harbor House we asked them to sub our dessert for extra sides (broccoli for one of us, cole slaw for the other). It was no problem.

The Disney owned and operated restaurants have always been more willing to make substitutions. The fact that it's now mid February and people haven't come to the boards saying there's been a noticeable change in the policy would indicate that the CMs continue to allow substitutions.

At the third party (non-Disney owned) restaurants you might not be able to make substitutions as easily. There was a thread a few days ago about the Moroccan QS restaurant, Tangierine Cafe, which only has baklava as a dessert choice. They don't allow substitutions so it's baklava or skip dessert.

Whenever you have questions at a restaurant, ask the CMs.

I asked at several TS locations if I could sub an appetizer for the dessert, or an appetizer for the main course and the answer was always "no".

This is not allowed at table service under any circumstances. I believe since 2008 when the DDP cut out the appetizer, we had two persons post about actually doing this, but one was something like "my cousin's husband's sister told me they did this" and I believe the other was just potstirring.
