questions a booking a trip to LV

Im trying to plan a getaway to Las Vegas and Im really getting confused

I found on Southwest airlines vacations a fairly good deal since I don't feel real comfortable booking things on the interent especially trips

I called AAA--after she takes down all the info she tells me theres a $25 booking fee I thought travel agents didn't (couldn't) charge a fee

There quote was over 100 more and that was with a $50 credit from AAA

Now I don't know if I should bite the bullet and just book it online or just pay the extra 25 and be done with it?!!!

This has to be a cheap trip since were going to HAwaii in July

what would to do--any advice would be greatly appreciated

Why not just book the hotel and the air by yourself? The concern I would have is packages tend to have odd cancellation clauses if they are needed.

I would most definitely book it myself. I like having direct control over the actual plans and the spending. If you have specific LV travel questions, there is a section here on the Disboards dedicated to such vacations-

Go to Disneyland/California & The West/Las Vegas.

When planning vacations, I usually consult TripAdvisor for reviews, orbitz or travelocity for rates and then more often that not - book directly with the vendor (airline, hotel, etc). They usually have the best rate in the end.

To me, planning a vacation is 1/3-1/2 of the fun!

I would book it yourself too. Also, as a heads up, make sure you watch out for the daily fees most of the resorts charge. Often times it isn't paid until you check in so it isn't obvious when you book. Read the fine print to see what the fee is and if it's included in your price.

I've booked 100's of hotels and flights online and had great experiences. I found that SWA vacation packages were overpriced when I looked online for the exact same flights/hotels and cars offered in their vacation package.

I've only been to Vegas half a dozen times, but we always book directly with the hotel - they always have special packages with perks like free resort/dining credit. But we stay on the strip - don't know if you're looking for a "regular" hotel there?

I'd book direct with the airline and hotel.

FYI - most of the hotels in LV charge 'resort fees' now. Anywhere from $10 - 30/night. Make sure you investigate that before you choose a place.

Airlines no longer pay Travel Agents the standard commission. They pay a minimal flat fee per ticket. That service charge isn't at all unusual.

I should have mentioned that I always book things on my own

however this time since this was a fast planned trip I dint know if I could get any time off while my DH was on Easter vacation we leave 4-11 and I just got the ok from work last Fri I could get the time off--we really wanted to go 4-13 through 4-17 but that for sure was a no-go so I was able to switch some days -actually the weekend and then my reg days off were Fri and Mon

so the air was pretty high--still Im used to planning WDW trip--months in advance

so tonite I just bit the bullet and booked air and hotel separtly
the wanna get away fares were gone so I had to take anytime

however I forgot about transfers--does anyone know of a good com for this

I checked the Disneyland..and the west but I found Disneyland but nothing listed with it as "the west"

so thanks again only 14 days!!!

I wanted to add that I knew it was going to rather expensive especially going over a weekend but hubby really needs to get away for awhile and me too actually!!! so I really didn't mind that much paying alittle more
