We're going to be staying at the Candy Cane next month and I was wondering about room placement. Can anyone recommend a part of the property over another? Suggestions?

We are going in August and I was wondering the same thing as well.

Also..if I might ask a question as well of the CCI experts....what time does the first shuttle leave in the am? I want to get in line before the park opens.

It's a narrow & deep property. Since the pool, breakfast area & shuttle pickup are all at or near the front.....I'd say "near the front".

We were near the back....probably 60-80 yards from the front to the back...not a long walk. But with elderly folks or toddlers, i'd want near the front.

This is a good question. When I was there in April.....the shuttle left CCI 30 min. before MM (on MM days) & 30 min. before Gen. Adm. opening (on non-MM days).

BUT.....this is what they say & post.....actually they nicely wait an EXTRA 5 MINUTES at all stops for "stragglers". This is GREAT if you're catching an afternoon or evening shuttle & are running a couple of minutes behind.....

....BUT if you intend to get to the gate 30-40 min. before an opening...the bus won't do it....instead you'll get to the gate at 15 - 20 min. before opening, which is 20 min. too late (imo).

So if wanting to be near the front of the gate lines, I recommend you walk. (We did.) About 10-12 minutes to walk.

Thanks for the input. I guess my feetsies will be hoofing it because I want to be there early. Sorry DH! (hehe) I guess I will use the shuttle for the RETURN trip back!

That's my plan too. Walk in the AM so we can get there in plenty of time before the park opens and then ride the shuttle when we're ready to head back out for a rest. Did you notice that the Candy Cane is no longer #1 on trip advisor? It got bumped to #2. It still has excellent reviews though.

Seriously? I am switching hotels then! :rotfl2:

I hate to ask this, but what time does the last shuttle leave? ;)

I want to say up until closing or a half hour past?? I have that info at home but I'm at work. (shhhhh....don't tell!)

Here I go with hijacking your thread again.....

What is the earliest time you can get breakfast? I don't mean the premium room delivery, I mean the little breakfast room with the continental breakfast.

Thanks!!

The last shuttle is about an hour after park closing.

As I recall, breakfast starts at around 7:00 AM (October, November, December & January are the only times I've been there).

I usually go when the parks open around 9ish or 10ish and I have never missed a rope drop or Early Entry while taking the shuttle to the park from CCI.

I've read that breakfast is at 7am but if you opt for having it delivered to your room you can get it earlier.

You have to book a Premium room if you want to have your breakfast delivered to you.

On the flip side, if you are not early risers, ask for the back. The one unpleasant part of our stay was parents sending children to the buffet alone- who then ran around screeching. We were having a sleep-in morning and were not so pleased about how close we were to the buffet that day. I think we'd have preferred walking the extra distance to minimize the noise.

We just got back from CCI, so I can answer a few questions...

The breakfast starts at 7 am and goes until 9 am. We were there as late as 8:30 am one day and there was still plenty of food available. Not a full breakfast, but enough to get you through the park gates and to lunch: pastries, muffins, bread and bagels (toaster available), fruit, milk, hot chocolate, orange and apple juice, and instant oatmeal.

The quietest rooms are in the back center, but they are also the most distance from the front if you're walking.
It is a two story motel, so if you're bothered by children's running footsteps above you, ask for the 2nd floor. But then you have steps...

If you opt for the 1st floor, make sure the room you get is not next to the laundry room. The first room they assigned us was, and it was immediately apparent that room would be noisy all day, since there was music playing for the workers as well as the noise of the laundry equipment. They reassigned us when we asked, no problem.

We were on the 1st floor and could park our rental car directly in front of our room, which was nice.

The shuttle is nice as an option, but we only actually used it twice in five days. It leaves 1/2 hour before DL opens and I think the last one is 45 minutes after DL closes. But the walk was easy and almost always quicker for us.

We liked the CCI, and for the AAA price we paid for the room we felt it was a really good value. Not the greatest hotel we ever stayed at, but quite nice, convenient, and friendly staff. :thumbsup2

Thank you! That is really helpful. I'm hoping that the air conditioner will be nice and noisy so it will block out basic noise.

The air conditioner unit is the old fashioned, under-the-window kind, and it is LOUD, so it works really well at blocking out all other sounds ::yes::

Yes, the standard rooms have a mini-fridge as part of the armoire/entertainment center. We stocked it with soda and bottled water from the little market next door.
