I am trying to rent some points and I thought I had found a link or older post regarding safe practices on renting & renting out points. Is there someone that can direct me in the right direction? :teacher:

Also, can a DVC member use their points to stay at other resorts such as AKL? Can you tell me how many points per day the AKL is for January 2007??

THANKS in advance for any help!!

The link should be a sticky at the top of the rent trade forum.

You won't want to rent points for a Disney hotel stay - it won't be cost effective. The points required per night multiplied by $10 will put you well over rack rate.

Maybe I'm reading wrong? Seems to me that it is WAY more cost effective to rent DVC points than to go with rack rates. If I'm wrong, I'm sure someone will straighten me out. The only exception I could see was Fri & Sat night where you would need 40+ point for a studio for both nights.

Standard view (cheapest)at WL Jan 2007 rack rate- $215 night
Studio at WL in Jan 2007 thru DVC-104 points

Rack rate for 7 nights- $1505
DVC rental for 7 nights @ $10 point-$ 1040
You could save another $10 by getting your Fri and Sat night stays at rack rate- $215 rather than $220 (22 points) per night, but that just doesn't seem worth the hassle for ten bucks, trying to align everything thru a third party rental.
I could not find DVC info on points for AKL, but you can use it- it is just alot more points- which is what the previous poster may have been trying to say- if you are going to use DVC points, it makes better economical sense to go with a DVC property.

It's more cost effective to go with renting DVC points than paying rack rate when staying at a DVC-Resort.

It is not the same when using points to stay at a regular WDW hotel.

For example, a Sun-Thu stay in a Studio at OKW in January is 8 points/night. At $10/point that's $80/night.

But if someone wanted to stay in a room at AKL, in January, as the OP was asking, it takes 29 points (Water View), 33 points (Savannah View), 38 points (Deluxe Water View), 39 points (Deluxe Savannah View), or 50 points (Kilimanjaro Club). All are Sun-Thurs. Fri/Sat go for 52-90 points/night.

At $10/point, that's anywhere from $290 to $500/night. Or up to $900/night for a Kilimanjaro Club weekend night) (Or go during holiday season and it goes up to 130 points/night, ($1,300 at $10/point) for a weekend night.)

The best use of DVC points is to use them at DVC Resorts.

Looks like Caskbill and I were clarifying ourselves at the same time and saying pretty much the same thing. :rotfl:
