Question regarding AP upgrade and DDP

My DW and I have a trip scheduled and completely paid for from March 27th-April 6th. Right now that trip includes a 10 day park hopper and the DDP. We've just recently decided to schedule another trip for August as well, this one being August 3rd-18th. If I were to go and upgrade our park hoppers to APs on the first day of our March trip, what happens to the dining plan? Would I still be on the dining plan or would they reimburse me the money already spent on it and make me pay OOP using the DDE card? I'd really much prefer to stay with the DDP, and have been toying with the idea of upgrading that to the Deluxe (45 days from today, I'd better decide quick!). Any dining plan experts want to take a crack at this one please? :worship:

Don't upgrade your tickets when you check in.

Bring them over to Lobby Concierge, or to Guest Relations at any park, and upgrade them (avoids all confusion and potential problems).

You will still be on the Disney Dining Plan.

Just in general, Disney almost never says 'no' to taking more of our money - so, even if you don't upgrade today you should still not have a problem. Just do it soon, as availability fluctuates.

I did this upgrade at guest relations in the MK and they were very helpful. I had no problems with my DDP. It all worked out fine.

just a suggestion: you might want to consider cancelling the DDP, & purchasing the DE card for use on both trips (that way you also may be able to take advantage of an AP discounted room).
fyi, we still found the DDP was a much better deal for us than DE (we've DVC & APs, with may & oct trips planned), but some find the DE a better option. the only way to find out which fits you better is "crunching the numbers" (remember, DE discount includes alcohol, if you tend to drink at dinner).
hth :)

To be honest, even if I crunched all the numbers and it turned out the DDP was going to be more expensive, we just really like having all our meals paid for in advance, rather than OOP. It feels really nice to ignore prices completely and just order what we want to eat the most. I know that's still a bit illogical, but I'm sure some of you must feel the same way. :)
