Question re: changing reservation

We have a trip planned for March - our use year is June. I have booked a 2 bdr unit but it turns out that our son may not be coming with us he won't know until later this month. I am thinking of changing the ressie to a 1 bd. The way I read the website the point difference between the 1 bd and 2 bd would have to be used by our use year - is this correct or am I misunderstanding. We did borrow some 2011 points for this ressie - would they go back to 2011 UY or would I have to use them before June 2010?

Borrowed points stay in the use year you borrowed them into. It's a one way move. So any points you do not use will expire the last day of your use year.

If any of your points used for the reservation are your regular 2010 use year points, you could continue to use the borrowed points for your 1 BR and any left over 2010 points could be banked into 2011 by January 31, 2010.

E.g. I'm going to use some fake numbers. You used 60 points from 2010 and borrowed 30 points from 2011 to make the 2BR reservation. The 30 points from 2011 would be applied to your 1BR reservation plus another 20 points from you 2010 points to complete the reservation. Then the remaining 40 - 2010 points could be banked into 2011.

Being able to change your reservation also involves that a 1 bedroom is available- even if you have a lock-off you can't just get rid of the studio portion and use points for a 1 bedroom- a 1 bedroom has to be available for you to switch.

With a June UY, you have until the end of January to bank any 2010 UY points. So, if the change is made prior to January 31st, just be sure that the reservation you keep uses all of the 2011 UY points first, any banked 2009 points you have, and then only 2010 UY points to complete the reservation.

This way, you can still bank those 2010 UY points. If things happen after January 31st, then all points that are returned to your account will have to be used by May 31st, 2011.
