Question on taxis from John Wayne Airport

We had just about decided to go with using the shuttle van for our ground transportation, but after reading some of the negatives, I'm beginning to wonder if using a taxi would be just as cheap, easier and quicker.

We have 4 adults in our group and lots of luggage (or at least whatever limits the airline has...2 checked plus whatever carry ons). Do they have vans available or will a taxi be able to handle that much luggage? We've always used a limo service going to WDW so I have no clue about taxis.

So, exactly how does the taxi service operate going from the airport to Disneyland? Is there a kiosk of some kind or do you just grab a taxi yourself? On the return trip leaving the Grand Californian, can I get the desk to call a taxi for us or will I need to do this myself?

Lastly, how early would I need to call for our pickup at the hotel? Our flight leaves at 1:50 on a Sunday.

Thanks in advance! I would have thought ground transportation would have been the easiest part, but it's driving me up the wall! Maybe I'm just making it harder than it needs to be!

across the street from the baggage claims. It's easy enough to get to. If you have a lot of luggage, you may need 2 taxis...so again, I'd suggest Jag. I've posted their number here a bunch. You can make reservations with them both ways. They have huge vans and could easily handle 4 people even if each person had a couple of bags.

Yellow Cab was barely able to fit 2 large pilot cases, a small pilots case, and a folded stroller in their trunk.

Still, if you don't have a ton of luggage, Yellow Cab is a good call. They're there and waiting at the Ground Transortation Center. Ask the front desk staff at your hotel to make reservations for transportation back to the airport...they can have a cab there for you at whatever time you want to leave.

If you want a van ($35 no matter how many passengers), you can call Jag to make reservations prior to your vacation. Again, your front desk can arrange transportation back for you...just ask them to make the call.

Last time we went down, (a Friday to Sunday trip in December) I found it was cheaper to rent a car for 2 adults/1 child then signing up for super shuttle or the disney bus. I think for 50 bucks, we had the freedom to go anywhere we wanted (if we wanted). We stayed off property and were able to park for free at DL with our AP's so we didn't have to worry about catching the shuttle to and from the park. We found it really convient. It was a Subura Forrester from Hertz, plenty of room. Look around for discount and/or upgrade codes, they always help. Good luck in what you decide.

We took a taxi from JW to the Carousel this past Feb. There were tons of taxis lined up outside. It cost us with a tip about $30. There was just the 2 adults and 1 child. However we had quite a bit of luggage plus the stroller.
