Question on luggage at SSR

We've stayed at SS 2 or 3 times so I should know this but someone mentioned over on the TUG board that she had an issue with the fact that SSR did not have luggage carts. I can't imagine this. I'm sure I would remember if that was the case.

We are going back there in Oct and I know we will need a cart.

I don't believe any Disney resort provides luggage carts for the use of guests, I know OKW doesn't. That is what Bell Services is for.

I guess we must have used bell services. I know we always do at BWV,BCV and VWL but the way SSR is set up, I didn't remember using them.

I do remember calling them at OKW after we got to our unit.

We have used Bell Services at SSR as well as borrowed a luggage cart left near the elevator at our building. It was just coincidence that it was there - I don't know where they are usually kept.

But there definitely are Bellmen who will help you.

SSR has bellmen? Next you're going to say that it's easy to get around!!! 36 more hours....we can make it.........next time we come here we'll stay at BLT....we understand the Monorail! Sorry, I'm 5 days into SSR & I'm afraid that I'm just not going to get it!

All resorts have luggage carts but officially, they are for Bell Services use only.

Disney will site liability issues but I think that they want you to use Bell Services which is a tipped position.

That was probably me over on TUG -- I never saw a luggage cart all week, or a bellman at our building (oh wait a minute; I may have seen someone bringing bags on a golf cart {but not with all the miscellaneous stuff we tend to have (boxes, grocery bags, stuffed Dinos from T-Rex, etc.)-- more like airline luggage}). I wonder if you can call and have one come over from the front lobby and meet you at your car. I guess the people who arrive by ME have their luggage delivered to their rooms somehow (by golf cart?).
After a week at SSR, we spent 3 nights at the Best Western Lake Buena Vista, and we were not allowed to use their bell cart -- had to use the bellman. The week before, we stayed at Marriott Royal Palms, which sometimes had bell carts available at our building (not always when we needed one, tho -- I think some people keep them in their room for hours, or overnight -- my grandson sure wanted me to do that on our last night). For some reason, I find it easier to get the car reloaded in stages when I leave, but when I get there, I want to get everything into the room as quickly as possible (and of course, am usually tired from the trip).
Anyway, next time, I think I'll find a way to take some kind of folding cart (I drive and will make that a priority -- even tho my car was already overstuffed on this last trip in June -- something else will have to be left behind).
One of my activities on this trip was to check out some of the other DVC resorts, and I didn't see any luggage carts out for general use anywhere (guess they look kind of tacky? -- as well as their wanting people to use bell services and tip the bell people).
Wow -- way too long a story for a message board -- obviously it was an issue for me (about to be 65, with a bit of a hip issue). I'm just way to used to being able to handle stuff by myself -- need to learn how to use available services better.

I know Pop is a looooong way from DVC, but when we were there last week, you had to go to a baggage claim area and give your driver's license, then we got this monster "hand truck" thing to bring our stuff to our room. I couldn't "drive" it, you had to pull instead of push..... Bell services, here we come!

At SSR if you are driving you can call Bell Services and they will come to your building and move your luggage from your car to your room.

If you aren't driving, check in at The Bell Desk by the busses and they will take you and your luggage via cart to your room. If you see a a Bell Person on a cart, they might give you a ride from your room, back to the Carriage House, if they are going that way, just ask them.

Not everyone staying at SSR drives their own car, so yes they have bellmen or luggage assistance. They have the carts on a golf cart with extra seats just like GF and the Polynesian.

There aren't bellmen stationed in each building, but there is a bell services button on the phones. There's a house phone on the first floor of each building near the elevator. You can call from there to ask for help. You could also pull into the portico at the Carriage House on your way back into the resort and ask someone to follow you over.

They have golf carts and vans to get luggage from the Carriage House to the rooms and vice versa for those using DME. I've also called them to deliver my owner's locker and other things that have been delivered to the lobby.

We've never thought about calling them to help us get things from the car to the room. In fact, I'm usually stingy and don't like it at other resorts when I have to use them -- for example, carrying grocery bags from the lobby of BCV so I can leave the car with the valet.

Wow, Dave, with parking so convenient at BCV, why even bother with valet parking? That seems more of a pain to me. BWV, VWL or Jambo House, I can understand since the parking lot is longer than the BWV corridors. But BCV is so close.

It's just so nice to call down and ask them to bring the car around and let the air conditioner run. Well worth the tip to get into a nice cool car.

But you have to walk all the way over to the BC to get the car.
