Hi All,

My mom put in a request for a trade into SSR for Thanksgiving week and got the wonderful news today that a match was made. She lost her husband of 23 years in October to Stage 4 lymphoma (after a long year and a half, fight) and I have not heard her sound that happy or excited in a very long time. It did my heart good this morning.

My question is this. She has a one bedroom and so her trade is also for a one bedroom. There will be 7 of us going so we will need a two bedroom and she is under the impression that she can upgrade for cash. Although we are DVC owners, I know nothing about trading in or how it works. Have any of you ever done this and do you know what the cost is to upgrade to a two bedroom? Is she correct that this is possible?

For those of you who love SSR..I'd love to send her some links to photos of the resort, to give her even more to look forward to. Thank you all for your time.

No, you can't upgrade a trade for cash. But here is what I would do - I'd book a studio at SSR on your points. Member Services can note it on both reservations (your point reservation and the trade through II). They will try to get them next to each other. They did this for us in January at VWL. We had a one bedroom trade at the lodge and mom and dad had a studio on DVC points. They were able to put us next to each other and in essence, it became a 2 bedroom with the combination.

There's no guarantee of them being side by side, but it worked for us.

Good luck.

I agree in all aspects. Contrary to what you see on this board, DVC is pretty strict with the occupancy through II. Getting the studio and asking they be linked and put together is your best option and I'd say your chances of success to be 80% or higher. Also have her keep an eye on II's online site to see if a 2 BR shows up. If it does she might be able to "retrade" for that unit for at most another exchange fee.
