What are the advantages of buying into a new resort as a member (add on) as opposed to buying as a brand new member? I'm sure add-ons get first crack at new resorts, but I'm wondering if they get points at a discount?
The greatest difference is that add-ons can be as small as 25 points - while new purchases must be 150 points or more.
There is not usually a discount for add-ons compared to new purchases, although there have been incentives available at times for existing members not available for new purchases.
In the past, DVC has usually placed minimum purchase requirements for add-ons to get the same discount as a new member. The now-ended F&F program allowed new members to purchase at $86 per point for 150 or more points - while members go that rate for 115 or more points. If a member purchased 50 - 114, the price was $91 and under 50 points saw a price of $101.
Reportedly, AKV purchases are only available to existing members for a short period of time.
