At the 60 day mark I know can use the points in my holding account to book a DVC room. If I get waitlisted can I make a ressie at one of the deluxe resorts (as a back-up) with those points and still be waitlisted? Then if the room becomes available cancel the deluxe resort and go with my waitlisted DVC room using those same points? :confused3

No- that would complicate your situation even more.

Points used for non-DVC options become "Reservation Points" and if later cancelled can only be used for non-DVC options like the cruise or other Disney (but non-DVC) resorts.

In addition, DVC points cannot be used to reserve a stay at non-DVC resorts once within 60 days of the end of your Use Year. The reason for these restrictions is that DVC must have the opportunity to use those points for stays at DVC resorts for cash reservations thru CRO. At 60 days, all availability remaining at DVC resorts is provided to CRO for cash reservations- called Breakage Income.

In this case, if you'll need to waitlist to use your Holding Account points, it might be wise just to decided then to use them for Disney Collection options and not plan on a DVC stay using the points.

Good luck!

Thanks for the fast reply as usual Doc!

No. Once you use points to make a reservation at a non-DVC WDW resort, you can't use the points for a DVC resort. Basically, MS sends some DVC nights to CRO to rent to get the cash to pay for your choice. In essence you are making an "irreversable trade". If you cancel the reservation at the non-DVC resort, you can only use the points for another reservation for one of the options inthe Disney Collection, the Adventurer's Collection or the Conceirge Collection.

Best wishes -

You can use cash or regular points to secure a backup reservation then cancel inside the 60 days window and then use the holding account points. Be sure not to borrow or be too late in your use year if you need to then bank the points.

Just posting to make sure the OP understands that Dean is talking about using regular points to make a back up reservation at a DVC resort, not a reservation at a Deluxe WDW resort like the GF or the Poly. Once you use points for one of those (non DVC WDW resort), you cannot cancel the reservation and use the points for a DVC resort reservation.

And of course, all reservations are subject to availability.

Correct, thanks Carol. I didn't make the distinction since Carol had already made that point earlier.
