Question for SSR Owners

hehe....I find it appauling that ALL of the cast members are not required to speak with an upstate NY accent. It truly ruins the theming of the place.

( but can you imagine those naughty NJ members staying there then? )

I am curious about what you would call an upstate NY accent? We are from Saraotga Springs, NY and I don't believe their is a discernible accent. We travel a ton and no one has ever been able to tell where we are from. We certainly don't have the NY/NJ accent up here. In fact we are closer to the Canadian border than to NYC. Just curious to get toher takes on this.

Have to agree with you there, Dave. I am about 70 miles south of you in Saugerties, NY and noone ever recognizes an accent on any of my family either.

Though my friends from the north central part of the US sure laugh when I tell them I am drinking a soda....

The fact that I was buying into SSR took awhile for me to get over...I found it difficult to pay $20000 for a timeshare that was themed off my backyard!

Of course, it isnt much different from ordering NY style cheesecake or a NY strip steak, how about some buffalo wings???

For those who've stayed, would you say the location was a slight drawback and that you spent more time shuttling than you would have liked? The more remote/quiet locale has some good points for sure, but from other threads it seems some folks think SSR is best for couples and not so much for families with kids in tow. What is your absolute fave thing about SSR when all is said and done?

I'd like to hear it from actual owners with lil ones...because after a week you'd really get a sense of how you feel about the location. We'd like to try SSR soon, but not quite sure! Thanks so much for your input into our decision-making!

Many on these boards know that I have been slightly critical of SSR in the past. It is certainly a nice resort and has many good features. The location near DTD is very nice. The quiet pool overlooking DTD is great and relaxing. The gym and spa area are great as well. This resort isn't a resort we would return to only because it doesn't meet some of our basic requirements for a RESORT vacation. First and foremost room service for us with a 3 year old is a must. We like to enjoy full days and come home and dial the phone and order dinner. Cooking is not our idea of vacation. Vacation to us means relaxing and not doing any of the things we do at home. Also our 3 year old doesn't do too well with sitting through a boring dinner in a restaurant. Limited menu at AP and the lack of room service are a big turn off for us. The spread out nature of the resort makes it tough with little ones also. We like resorts where things are at your fingertips. God forbid if you forget something and have to go back. In all fairness as buildings closer to the main areas open this problem will be alleviated. We are more of BWV,BCV, VWL types rather than the do it yourself type of vacation that can be found at OKW and SSR. I guess in a nutshell we like more of a hotel type experience rather than a condo type experience. For the money you pay for DVC we expect more in the way of service and dining options. I can stay at far nicer condos for far less if I wanted that type of expereinece. It all boils down to tastes. DVC is great because it truly offers something for everyone.

lol I couldn't tell you at all I am from the south and spent a summer in CA in school and every time I spoke, people stopped and stared at me like I was from Pluto. LOL I suspect you don't sound like me, but I would not be able to pick you out of a "line up" either. Just an attempt at humor.

Dave, this was sooooo much more informative to me than your previous posts about your experiences at SSR. I can see why it doesn't fit you.

Just goes to show why Disney has made each resort different enough from the others. Everyone has their idea of the ideal vacation. I know I don't plan on staying at SSR much at all. I don't see much difference between SSR and OKW and I would much rahter have the bigger rooms, bigger jacuzzi and less points per night at OKW....

I do have to admit that the ability to walk to DTD for eating/shopping and resort busses is apealling though.

But, we are looking at a GV room in '07 and it is about 500 points in OKW and 700 at SSR for 1 week...that is a HUGE difference for nicer furniture and smaller space... I can do 11 days in OKW for the same points...
