Im assuming this is correct but just wanted to check with those who have done it. We own at SSR and extended family wants to do a grand villa, family members have offered to pay to rent points so we do not need to borrow into the next year too make up the difference in points needed. If we rent & transfer SSR points they will just add to out current points and can be used together for one reservation, coorrect?

Probably the simple answer to your question is "yes"...but nothing's simple w/DVC!

First, you don't "rent" points (or a reservation) when you're doing a transfer...you and the owner you're getting the transfer from call MS (a three-way call works well) and you each give MS your member numbers (and tell them the contract you want the points transferred to if you have more than one contract) and voila--it's done. Two things to keep in mind: first, the rules actually dictate that you're not allowed to get/pay for point transfers--so keep any conversation about payment for the transferred points out of the call to MS; second, transferred points do not show up online (and they retain their home resort/use year characteristics), so it can be tricky to use them if you're used to doing your booking online. But it's easy-peasy if you just call MS and book, telling the CM that you want to use the transferred points first...

So, if your booking is at or after 7 months, all the points will be combined to do your reservation. If it's between 11 and 7 months, the transferred points will have to be points at the resort you're booking (in your case, SSR points)...

It sounds harder than it is...have a fun time!

If you own SSR and get SSR points, then yes, you can use them with your own SSR points to book. If they are the same UY that you own, you will actually see them in your online account. If not, then you will have to call to book with them. Just make sure that the UY of the points you get are valid for the time you want to travel.

Related question: If they are NOT the same UY - can they still be mingled together on a single reservation? I thought I had read that you might end up "linking" separate reservations booked under the different UY points? If I recall correctly, any given night had to be booked from a single UY. If so, that might leave a few points unused unless perfectly executed?

No, different UYs blend together with a transfer. So if you're booking a room for 30pts, you can use 2pts from the transfer and 28 from your own. No linking involved.

OP - I would try to look for points with the same UY so that it shows up online. Points with different UY is not "easy-peasy" if you call MS. Using them requires manual stuff on MS's parts. I had some points stuck in limbo for a few weeks because of changes to reservations made with transferred points.

Thank you!
