Ever since I downloaded the newest version of Media Player I've had nothing but trouble. It opens when I start windows and seems to take a lot of memory too. Often it doesn't work and freezes my computer. If I delete it, can I get it back if I decide I need it? Any tips would be appreciated.

Ann, if you want to delete it and later on you realize that you want it , you can get it, I don't see why not.
Mine doesn't work very good either , but I don't use it that much , so I don't mind. Good luck.

Ann, I learned the hard way tonight that NO you cannot delete windows media, it's one of those built in thingys from microsoft and it does not have an uninstaller. I hate the new version, I think my husband just left it there but changed me to quicktime for default.

OK...

1. Check your startup directory. If WMP is there, delete it. That's probably why it's starting up when Windows starts.

2. In WMP itself, go to Tools, Options, File Types tab and deselect everything there. That way WMP will not be your default player.

3. Get winamp, real player or quicktime player as your default player.

Hope that helps.
