Question about waitlisting and availability

Need some insight from some seasoned DVC'ers. I'm looking to do a 2 bedroom at SSR Dec 1 to Dec 4. When I called to make the reservation I was told that only the first two nights were available and was waitlisted for the third. Interestingly though when I go out to disney.com as "joe public" and inquiry on a reservation for the same dates there is 2 bedroom availability for all three nights at either SSR or OKW. Am I missing something? Why wouldn't a DVC request not get priority over a non-DVC request?

Completely different inventory, cash versus points.

Disney maintains at all times a percentage of each DVC resort that they can rent for cash, those rooms are never available for point stays.

Also when a DVC member trades out of DVC, rooms become available for cash also.

At 60 days out any rooms left that have not been booked on point stays will go to cash also. Those can at times be reclaimed.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the info.
So does this mean there is potential for a "cash" room to go unsold, at the same time a DVC member's waitlist could be unfulfilled simply because cash rooms were not released for point stays?

Exactly. Disney will upgrade a guest from another resort before they will give the villa back to DVC to use for a points reservation. They don't make any money on a points reservation.

They don't release cash rooms for points stays unless the rooms were part of the rooms they turned over to Disney to sell at 60 days out and are still unsold.
