Question about visiting Atlantis

I slacked off on booking port excursions for our cruise next month and now there are no good times left for the Discover Atlantis tour, so we will just take a cab over. But, does Atlantis offer passes to the public just for visiting the casino and the Dig aquarium? I know they have passes for the Aquaventure but we're not doing that, just going to see the aquarium, have lunch, hit the casino for a bit.

Yes, you can go over and go to the Casino and buy Dig tickets there. You won't be able to walk out to the pools and beaches though. Cab ride is $4 each way per person.

thanks. They don't let you walk around outside at all though? What about those paths around the tanks where you can see the rays and the outdoor restaurants and stuff??

When we were there, you had to have the wrist band to go outside where the pools or beach are located. They had someone standing at each doorway making sure.

Do you mind me asking when this was? I ask because during my last sailing March 2014 we did pay for the Aquaventure so we were able to walk around freely however, we were never saw anyone watching for wristbands which was a good thing since both DS and DH lost theirs shortly after we arrived at Atlantis.

The security guards that check wristbands are at the entry points for the outdoor grounds and water attractions. Once you're inside that perimeter, some staff might occasionally ask to see a room key or a wrist band, but not often...they rely on the guard at the entry points. Some hotel guests skip getting wrist bands altogether and just show their room key.

No walking around the pool and aqua venture area, nor the aquarium and sea life lagoons, unless you purchase a day pass or do an aquarium tour. But you can walk outdoors around the marina village shopping area.

Yes, i plan to do the "discover atlantis" tour which gives you access to tbe ruins/dig - just not the aquaventure. But i didnt see any mention on the atlantis site about aquarium-only day passes, just the passes that include the slides/pools. But, i would like to have lunch at one of the outdoor restaurants. I cant book it through DCL because the only times left are all too late (after 11:00). We want to be on our way as early as possible

How much is a day pass?

The Discover Atlantis tour through DCL includes the aquarium, I assumed it was a full day pass, maybe not. Would like to hear your review, when is your cruise? We sail April 18, so I can't book excursions until 1/19, but this is the one excursion we are planning to book.

There is an aquarium pass, called the "Discover Atlantis" pass, which was $42 for adults (13+) and $33 for children (4-12) last I checked. 3 and under are free with a paying adult. The Discover Atlantis passes only allow you to visit the Dig and the predator lagoons. They can be purchased that day at the ticket booth just outside the entrance to the Coral Towers. We have heard that at peak times some of the passes sell out, but that seems to mostly apply to the Aquaventure passes that give you access to everything including the water park, and maybe the Beach Day passes that give you access to the aquarium and Beach.

To the best of my knowledge, you can't eat at any of the outdoor food locations in the Aquaventure area with a Discover Atlantis pass. I think you can eat at the Cave Grill in the Beach Tower without needing any pass at all, and it has both outdoor and indoor seating.

Okay, thanks. I will find out soon enough, we sail on February 14th. I know there's the cave grill and isn't there also another outdoor restaurant that I think is on the beach towerside? It's not a big deal I'll figure it out when I get there. I'm just mad at myself for not booking through DCL when my window first opened up.

I don't think you can access the Cave Grill unless you come off the beach. There usually a guard checking for room keys or wrist bands at the Beach Tower exit. Plus, Cave Grill is often closed a few days a week, and closed for extended periods when the lazy River and river Pool by the beach tower is closed (which it is now, reportedly).

I think a safer bet for outdoor dining would be the new Margaritaville on Paradise Island.

The lagoon bar & grill is the other restaurant I was thining of.

That might be open to people with a Discover Atlantis pass; it's next to the predator lagoons, which are supposedly open to people with that pass. We didn't get over there when we visited the Dig, so I'm not sure if you just get to go through the predator lagoon tunnel, or whether you get to wander around that area in general.

Can you access the casino using the "Discover Atlantis" pass? We're not into the water park but just looking to get out and go do something. I thought it would be cool to see the aquarium and my mr. could play a couple hands of blackjack.

You don't need any pass to go in the casino. The Coral Towers and Beach Tower interiors and the casino are open to anyone any time. However, the Coral and Beach towers are old hotels that predate the building of the main Atlantis complex, and have just been repainted and redecorated to fit the theme a little better. Almost all of the coolest architecture and art is in and around the Royal Towers, which requires a wristband (or a room reservation) to enter during the day.
