Question about V&A menu?

We keep going back and forth about trying Victoria & Albert's. We have always wanted to try it because it's considered such a special thing to do in WDW, my DF used to be a server in restaurants similar to that caliber, & we love trying expensive wine, but I am a pretty picky eater.....

I'm not horrendous & there is alot of foods I do enjoy and if it's a meat or fish I'm familiar with, I'll typically try it, but there are alot of things that make me squeamish that I would definitely refuse to try. There are certain textures I just cannot handle. I don't want to waste our money and I definitely don't want to be a pain in the neck to the chefs or the server.

I would never eat cavier, olives (though olive oil is fine), octopus, veal, lamb, trout, shrimp, duck, "gamey" type meat. I love cheese, but not cheese that is stinky. I'll eat most other cow meats, non-stinky fish, chicken, turkey, crab, lobster, etc pasta, rice, raw tuna, and most vegetables. I'm usually fine trying most desserts. I've seen alot of these foods listed on V&A dining reviews that I've read on the Dis.

When you go to V&A's, do you get to select the appetizers, main course, etc yourself (at least a limited 3 different things to choose from for each course) or is it a set menu, no choices at all?

Thank you!

If you go to the all ears menu's page, they have a sample menu (although they change depending on what's in season, etc). But for a normal person, they have options for each course, generally - like 4-6 options for your "main" course, a few options for each course before that, lots of dessert options. I'm a vegetarian so we let them know ahead of time - and they tailored my menu to only have vegetarian options (while my husband got the normal menu). If you're "picky" I think you could still probably eat well off the regular menu; but if you're concerned, you can call and talk to them and see if they could maybe keep your dietary restrictions in mind to make sure there are things you can eat for each course.

It was an amazing experience though. And one thing I'll say is that I ate there with an open mind. I'm a vegetarian who doesn't like mushrooms or beets, and two courses had one or the other, and they were delicious.

And we did the wine pairings which were also great- and so cool to have different ones for my husband and myself based on each of our courses. Highly recommend!

If I was that particular, I would skip V&A. We have dined there frequently and part of the fun is trying new things.

While there are minimal choices on the courses, there's a good chance you are going to have to choose things that are on your list.

Pakey is correct. There are choices, but not too terribly many. And while the restautant will certainly do their best to work with you, they are limited to what they have on hand any particular evening.

As an example, you will NOT find any steak on the menu unless you are willing to fork over extra $$$$. You will almost aways find lamb, duck or veal on the menu (sometimes pork).

I am allergic to shellfish but when they call you ahead of time you can just mention your preferences.

i will say this.. most of what you refuse to eat.. will be the bulk of the selections. Cavier will cost extra but so will a steak..as much as an additional $90 or more ON TOP of the already hefty price tag.

the amuse bouche we had no choice on.. mine was a trio of tomato based bits( I LOATHE tomatoes).. and I will admit..they were GOOD. even the tomato ice cream thingy.

if you are okay with maybe only having one item on each course that would meet your requirements go for it.. or go ahead and request the vegetarian menu

its worth experiencing....

The menu never remains the same because it depends on what is in season and what they were able to get fresh. Here is our menu from our trip the week after Thanksgiving, 2010....

There is also a full vegetarian menu always available, so you could swap out a course you don't like for one off the vegetarian menu.

If you go to www.victoria-alberts.com they show sample menus, for the Dining Room, for CT/QVR, and Vegetarian. They do change these occasionally, but it will give you an idea.

And also if there is anything you will not eat, either allergy or other reason, they will be able to accommodate you.
