Question about UY of transferred points

Okay, I consider myself an authority on DVC, but I am really stumped on this one. I know that transferred points are tricky to track, so I want to understand all the rules so that I can correct MS if anything is showing incorrectly.

I have a March UY (BCV), and I transferred in June (2009) BCV points. Now, as I understand it, the points keep their UY. So I went to make a May, 2010, reservation at BCV with the transferred points, and MS is telling me that I have to bank them first. I said that they have a June UY, so they should be good in May, but she insisted that since I have a March UY, I have to bank them into 2010 to use them in May, 2010. I did not do that, because I know I can't reverse a banking transaction, and I don't want to find out on the other side of it that she was wrong. Can someone explain this to me?

P.S. My transaction is wwwwaaaaayyy more complicated than this, so I know that I am trying their nerves, but this is the essential piece that I don't get.

You are correct, call back and ask for a supervisor since many CMs really do not understand the fine points of transferring and transferred points. It sound like the CM was trying to bank your owned contract points instead of just using your June 2009 transferred in points in their origonal use year.

The original CM is correct if the points were put into your 2009 UY. Then they bank them into your 2010 UY and then they will be available for your reservation in May 2010.

That was the experience I had this last year when I did a couple of transfers.

Just to clarify, transferred points are not supposed to change use years i.e be put in your March UY (but again with under trained CMs reality may be different). The 2009 June UY transferred in points should be available for reservation from 6/1/09-5/31/2010. If they get banked they are available from 6/1/10-5/31/2011. If they were incorrectly put in the wrong UY month a supervisor can fix this.

That's basically what the CM was trying to tell me, but she also kept saying that they are June, 2009, UY. If I just knew that the system effectively made them March UY, I would be fine with that and know that I could trust it to use them for my reservation that spans May and June, 2010. But I want to know what's going on before I do this irreversible banking.

Maistre Gracey: By "morphing," do you mean that the system treats the points as if they are my UY, even though the rules are supposed to be that they keep their own UY? Boy, I'm glad they told me ahead of time that I needed 2009 points -- if I'd got Dec., 2008, points, they'd have probably shown expired in my account!

Thank you so much for telling me to do this. The CM I spoke to yesterday sounded so sure that I thought there must be something I didn't know about going on. Sure enough, when I called today and asked to speak directly to a supervisor, she said that I was right, the transferred points should NOT be banked, and she made the ressie for me! :dance3:

Thanks again.
