question about using southwest rapid rewards points for a flight?

lol

I need to book for minor GD (with different last name) next flight release date...never crossed my mind about it registering her as unaccompanied!

how does one avoid this mess?popcorn::

I'm mostly kidding. It's not that difficult but if you're booking them separately just book yours first. Then it will prompt you to link the kids reservation to yours. It's a fairly seamless process but you have to click ok a couple of times, etc. Every once in awhile my browser craps out and that makes it more fun!

Why would you book them separately? Maybe that's why I didn't have any issues. I booked our tickets together. Yes, 2 confirmation #s but on 1 reservation

Multiple reasons (that probably aren't common):

Most common:
-Paying with points out of your account for your ticket and out of their account for their ticket
-Booking at separate times because you didn't have enough points for both flights
-Paying cash for one and points for another

Less common:
-Only one fare left at that price (point value)
-Attempting to use Remaining ticketless funds to pay for the fees and ending up with too many payment methods (limit 4)

Some of these are fairly complex and weird situations but I usually have one of them at play when we're booking travel.

Oh, now I understand. You are right about those situations complicating things. But, like you, I do love Southwest. Haven't paid for a flight in years!

I booked DGS and I together with points. It gave us 2 different conf # but linked them, I assume because his birthday made him a minor. Never occurred to me nor did I see that there was an issue. SWA customer service folks are terrific. I would call & let them guide you through the process just to be sure. And we also had 2 different last names

thanks, will likely just book for all in my party when schedule is released then call to let SWA sort it out.
