Question about using resale purchase points on existing reservations

We're thinking of buying a resale in addition to the points we already have at BWV. We have existing reservations (made at the 11 mo window) for Sept. If we are able to make a purchase prior to that that has points banked from 2001, would we be able to use the banked points from the new contract on our existing reservation? This would allow us to bank 2002 points (from both contracts) and not lose the 2001 points. Is this a possibility?

We were able to do this with the resale we just purchased.

Originally when I called to ask this question (before we had closed) I was told by Member Services that I would have to cancel the current reservation and re-book with the banked points from the new contract, subject to availability.

However, when I actually called to cancel and re-book, the CM with whom I spoke told me she could just reallocate the points, so she used up all my banked points (from the resale) and freed up current year points from our original contract, which we do plan to bank into the following year.

Our resale was the same use year and resort as our original contract, so pehaps that is why we were able to do this. Good luck!

It will also depend on the use year of resale- if banked points are valid for Sept stay or not.

I don't have any first hand experience with this but based on other information I have garnered over the years, I would have to think that it's unlikely MS will simply subsitute the points just because you have a new purchse with points that may expire. I would think the logical thing for MS to do would be to have you cancel and rebook but that means the waiting list must then be cleared for you to get the reservations back. I suspect it will depend on who you get when you call and how much fuss you create and that there is no definite answer.
