Question about Transfer of Points

When someone transfers points to your DVC account, I know you have complete control over the use of the points once it is transferred. However; QUESTIONS:

Are these transferred points always used first?

Do they remain separate from all your other points for dates, etc.?

Can these points be banked?

Do they carry the original owners expiration or does it change?


Your help is greatly appreciated in understating this better.

I think you can tell them which points to use when making reservations.

Do they remain separate from all your other points for dates, etc.?

Yes.

Can these points be banked?

Yes.

Do they carry the original owners expiration or does it change?

They retain their original use year.

To my surprise, I was able to transfer points last week to a DVC member who was then allowed to bank them into her use year; I had been told that use year stayed with points, but now the rule (riddle is how the cast member referred to it) is that you can bank transferred points, but cannot transfer banked points. I called back twice to confirm, and the transfer and subsequent bank went through without a glitch!

It can get a little sticky. I have an April use year (BWV) and have a friend with an August use year (BCV). We wanted to combine points for an April 2004 stay at the 7 month mark (BWV). So she transferred some August 2003 points to my account, thinking they would be current year. When they got into my account, MS said they became April 2003 points and had to be banked before I could make an April 2004 reservation. Banking transferred points is a manual transaction and would take 24 hours. I was really upset because I wanted to make sure I got the last night of our reservation (another friend booked the first 3 nights), it was standard view. That happened in the afternoon, luckily when I called back first thing in the morning it was done and I got the last night. They linked it with my other friend's reservation for the first 3 nights and it was seemless when we got there.
