Can I trade into an II timeshare that is not on Disney's list?

Not if you want to go through DVC. Your choices are limited to the ones DVC has "pre-approved".

You can always arrange for a direct exchange with an owner of the resort you are interested in. Many here recommend www.tug2.net as a place to start for that.

Best wishes -

cool thanks :) I have to join tug seems like alot of people on there huh? Is it risky to do that?

There are risks involved but they are controllable. If you travel first, that is one of your best protections. In addition to direct exchanges arranged at places like TUG, timesharing today and the Rent/Trade board on this site; there are a number of other possibilities. One of the best is to rent out your points then rent what you want. Another is to use any one of a number of independent exchange companies to include San Francisco Exchange, Trading Places, Donita's, Platinum Interchange, etc.

Depending on your situation, combining a number of the options is actually the best. As for the best single choice, it depends on what you want and when you want it. What resort(s), unit size and time of year were you interested in? Do remember that many of the other II otions are below the standards of DVC so be careful and investigate the choices before you proceed.

And don't forget the options above aren't limited to just II, you have as much chance of getting top RCI resorts as well. Plus you've increased your overall options further increasing your chance of success.

What Carol is referring to is that DVC tries to have the best resorts in an area from II's list. Don't let this give you a false sense of security as only a handful of resorts in II are truly up to DVC's standards. And what may be a great chocie for one person may not be for another. In addition, there are many other reasosn that a particular resort may not be on the DVC-II list and they are no all quality related. So there are a number of resorts not on the list that are worth considering.

ThanksDean that is alot of info my head is so swimming LOL.

Now if I bank next years points can I trade them in 2006 along with maybe some of my 2006 points so we can stay longer somewhere and what are the possibilities of that? of say getting a 2 week 1 br trade? We were thinking AZ....maybe lol...

Now my head's swimming, LOL. Late fall through Easter is the prime time for AZ and Desert CA. If you wan to go another time, you should have more success and choices which will be cheaper.

Lets assume you want to go to the Four Seasons or Marriott. Here's what I'd do.
  • Join and post on TUG on the direct exchange board.
  • Contact DVC and put in a request which you can do up to two years in advance.
  • Contact a number of the Independents including the ones above. Since you wouldn't want to deposit first with them, that would limit your choices with them some but not totally.
  • Considering offering your points for rent.
  • Post on the Rent Trade Board of this site and bump it up periodically.
  • Look for a rental where you want to go.

While my approach would be similar for lessor properties, it would vary somewhat depending on the season and resort in question. While you can do deposit first, in general DVC works on a requst first basis. That means they don't take any points until you match with II. If you have points expiring that you want to use, deposit first can work but is VERY tricky. It's best to use, bank, or rent your points along the way.

now would I pay cash rate at the resort I want or rent from another timeshare owner? Dean are you sick of this thread yet? LOL

There are some topics it's impossible for me to get tired of and trading timeshares including DVC is one of those. Actually, you could do either. I would think renting a full week from an owner would be far less than cash through the resort assuming you need a full week. You can rent less than a week from the resort though. What week are you interested in? That would have a bearing on your options.

Other than the week starting with Easter next year, there are unis for Barony and Grande ocean for almost the rest of the time for March and April, next year.

I was thinking next August early Sept. But yeah I would think renting from and owner would be cheaper too. I am not sure though.

August is prime time, Sept after the holiday is less. I would think an going search listing Grande Ocean and Barony would Match if you listed the entire time. Far more likely to match Sept than August though. Rentals for next summer will be $2000 plus but Sept should drop significantly. For August, I think the 270 points to trade is worth it and less than the 330 pts for a 2 BR for HH DVC in August or even the 280 for September. But there's the $75 fee plus the restrictions if you hve to cancel. Put in the request while you're looking for other things, you can always say no when they call to offer it to you. And of course you could also schedule the HH as a backup when the 7 month window opens and cancel if you find something that fits your plans better.
