Hi all...we just booked our trip for April 2010 and I have a question about the tickets and dining plan?

We booked a room only ressie at the poly for DH, myself and 4 kids (7,5,2, and infant). I wanted to add the dining plan as I think we will do a lot of character meals and I heard it was worth it if that was the case. But my understanding is I have to buy tickets too to get the DDP.

I would like to buy tickets through Undercover Tourist if possible to save a little $$. Can I buy just one 1 day ticket with Disney to get the Dining plan and then buy the rest through undercover tourist?

Thanks! I am so excited we just booked our trip!

You answered your own question. To be eligible to purchase the dining plan you have to purchase at least one day tickets. Good Luck and have fun!!

You can, sure - but you're not saving anything, you're actually spending more. You need to factor in the price of the mandatory ticket purchase, whether you're going to use it or not.

A: You put away the mandatory tickets for some future trip.
....1: You never use those tickets because you always end up booking packages
....2: You never use those tickets because you can't find them

B: You use both the mandatory ticket purchase and the UCT ticket purchase = you're paying about $76 more per adult than when you purchase all days' tickets from one source.

Buying all the days from Disney as part of your package makes more financial sense than the small discount you'd get by purchasing one day from Disney plus the tickets you'll need/use from an authorized ticket reseller.

You can do that, but the cost of the one day tickets will eat up any savings from Undercover Tourist. If you want the dining plan, a more economical way is to either buy the tickets through Disney, or buy the tickets you need for your trip through UT and save the one day tickets from Disney. Because of Disney's ticket pricing structure, additional days past the fourth day are only about $3. For example, you can buy a five day MYW base ticket for $242 gate price (it will be cheaper at UT), or you can buy a 4-day for $239 and a one day with your package for $84. If you need tickets as well as the DDP, it is better to buy all through Disney or buy through UT and save the one day tickets to upgrade for another trip.

Hope that makes sense!

Actually, you can't do that. The OP asked if they could buy just ONE one-day ticket. You cannot. You must purchase at least a day ticket for everyone in your party.

Didnt catch that. OP, you must buy at least a 1-day MYW ticket for each person in your party that requires a ticket. Your 2-year old and infant do not require tickets and are not covered by the dining plan (assuming your 2-year old is not a 3-year old in April). Each person must have the same ticket for the package, but they can be upgraded after check-in.

The pp is correct. Op asked if they could buy one 1 day ticket. OP you need to buy a 1 day ticket for each person in your party. That really negates any savings from undercover tourist

Wow, Thanks for all the quick replies! Yes, after reading through more posts on the Dining plan section of the DIS boards, I would have to buy a one day ticket for the 4 of us (DH, myself, DS (7) and DD (5). So it would probably negate the savings from undercover tourist.

Now I just have to decide whether or not to add the DDP...decisions, decisions...anyways, THANKS again everyone!:goodvibes

I'd say I haven't had my coffee yet, but I don't drink coffee. :rotfl2: But I haven't had my Diet Coke yet, either. At least someone on these boards is a morning person!

I am just curious how much you can actually save per ticket through UT.

When I was looking up ticket prices 6 months ago it seemed that the saving were only around 5 or 7 dollars saving on a 9 day base ticket.

If thats the case the convience and security of having my tickets on my room key as oppossed to a hard ticket seems worth the 20-28 bucks i would have been saving for my family.

Are the savings alot better then what I remember seeing?

It depends on the ticket you are buying. I just bought a 5-day hopper through the mousesavers UT link and saved about $20 over gate prices (only needed one ticket since DH didn't go with us last trip). Remember that Disney's online prices don't list tax, although it is charged. Mousesavers lists current gate prices with tax, and UT lists prices with tax. Other brokers (Maple Leaf Tickets, AAA, etc.) may have a better price on a particular ticket, but we have found UT to be the cheapest for 5 or 7-day hoppers, which is what we usually buy.

And you can have your UT tickets put on your room key when you check-in if it makes you feel better. :goodvibes We have not done that, but several people have posted that they have.

Thanks for the info, thats alot more saving then I remember seeing. I will have to keep this in mind for next time :)

Just be sure to sign up for the mousesavers.com newsletter that comes out the 15th of each month. It contains a link to UT that gives a discount off UT's already reduced prices. If you don't go through the link, the prices will be a bit higher, but still less than gate price. I always save my mousesavers.com newsletter in my e-mail until the next month's newsletter comes out so I always have the link.

If you're comparing what shows on the UT link from mousesavers to what's on the Disney website, then yes, you are saving a lot more. UT prices include both tax and shipping; Disney's prices show neither.
