i did find a small store down the hallway, its about a quarter of the size of the original store. the old store was closed up and you could peek thru the doors and it was completely gone no carpet no check out counters just a concrete floor. the sign on the outside says BC MARKET Place coming soon.

:earseek:

I though in one of the DVC newletters that they mentioned - expanding this store - more DVC stuff (Hurray!!!) - so be patient

Woo Hoo! I remember reading that as well, but didn't know they would be doing it so quick. Wonder when that is going to be done! I was afraid when I read that they would be having some quick bite type eats that it would be those pre-made subs wrapped in plastic wrap and put in the existing refrigerators at the Beach Club Store. If they are actually remodeling it sounds like it is much more extensive.

The store was suppose to be closed for the "first quarter" so that will be Jan/Feb/Mar. The story talked about the childcare at BC being closed for the remodeling from Jan 2 (?) and the childcare at BWI would be reopened to take care of children in the meantime.

When we were on the Illuminations Cruise, our skipper told us that 1/2 of the gift shop is being changed into a fast food location, similar to Roaring Forks at Wilderness Lodge, because guests have complained about the lack of fast food options. I think it's going to reopen in March.

Very interesting. I always enjoyed the BCV store, it had a nice selection and a couple of DVC items. Like the fact you could purchase the makings for adult beverages there.

Fast food location, huh? Anyone else heard this?

I spoke to the General Manager at a Members Get Together at Martha's Vineyard. I suggested that Beaches and Cream be expanded...there is always a line. He told me it had been considered, but the decision was to open part of the store for carryout food. The food would be more upscale that Beaches and Cream and provide more variety. I guess we will see soon enough. Sandie

Upscale carry out food? Oxymoron?

I think this is too bad - that store wasn't too large as it was - certainly not as big as the store at the BW.

I love the idea of another option for quick food. Beaches and Cream is so crowded and definitely not quick most of the time. I love BCV but have always wished they had another way to grab a bite to eat(and has anyone ever noticed the sour smell in B&C?). I look forward to hearing more about this development and hope it's ready for me check out in June! :flower1:

Adding a fast food location sounds great, and that area is RIGHT near the walkway to BCV - Very convenient! ::yes:: Mug refills would be SO much easier! B&C is always so busy and actually quite a ways from BCV... (Oh, and in our many visits, none of us has ever noticed a sour smell)

We'll miss the store being bigger, but maybe with the remodelling they can open up some other nearby space to keep the store a reasonable size. Guess we'll just have to wait and see the results! Looking forward to checking it out in August! :bounce:

I wonder if they are expanding this into the child care area since it is closed as well and moving the child care area to somewhere else?

Excellent news!!! Thanks for the update!

They closed the Sandcastle Club in order to move the store into that area while they work on the gift store. They are putting a grill area into the Beach Club store in order to deal with some of the lack of quick dining options available at the resort. IMO, its long overdue.

Once the store reopens, the Sandcastle Club will be refurbished and reopened. I do not believe there are any plans to expand it as there is really no where to go.

I have talked to many people over the years about expanding Beaches and Cream as so many people believe it would be easy with Ariel's right next store. However, even though Ariel's "appears" to be closed most of the time, they have many private party's and dinner's there and its quite profitable to Disney with the way they are using it at the present time.

I really think adding a grill at that location is a great idea since it is so much closer to ALL of the Beach Club rooms, whether its the Villa's or the Resort rooms itself.

It should be interesting to see what they offer for food. I was only told it would be a "grill"

A grill? Really? Is this information from a good source? I wonder if they will be doing breakfast, lunch and dinner then? With a grill they can do eggs, bacon and hashbrowns for breakfast. I also like the idea that they might have a self service drink re-fill like some of the other places have!

Are their hours that limited? It is pool side, but close and quick.

We have never eaten there, but when I looked at the menu, you could get burgers and fries and wraps there. I thought they also refilled mugs.

Im not upset about the store renovations, just wondering why HHanna's was not seen as a fast food option.

While Hurricane Hanna's is a nice pool bar, their menu isn't really that extensive and I've found it to be pricey, even for Disney. Also, its way far from the Villas. Actually, its even further away than B&C. Speaking of which, I really wish they would expand B&C. I think they could easily swipe a little bit of space from the arcade next door. All they would need is a little bit of room to add another row of tables, IMO.

Frankly, I'm thrilled with the news of the grill addition. I think it is LONG overdue, and this will be so close to the Villlas. I'm ecstatic. Too bad I won't be staying there for at least another year and a half!

Maybe they will be able to expand into some of the store's storage areas. I like the idea of a fast food option with a grill and being able to refill my mug but I hate to see the store get too much smaller.

I hope they get done a little earlier than expected as DD and I will be there on 3/14/05.

Donna

I think this is a huge improvement. I will not miss the store... in fact, if they closed 3/4 of the stores at WDW I wouldn't miss them either... and I would then feel they have just the right amount :)

Hurricane Hannahs closes at 6pm. We have eaten lunch there many times. It is ok. Sandie

Has anyone heard anything new about this? IF it's true and it would be open the 1st week of April then I would change our reservations to the BC or BCV. The snack food type places there needed a boost and this would do it! :jumping4:
