Question about splitting one's stay between two WDW resorts.

Have any of you split a WDW vacation between two resorts (Disney resorts of course)? If you have, how did you get your luggage from one location to the other?

I'm already plotting our next vacation in 2004 and we're contemplating doing this. We'd like to stay at the Pop Century for 4 nights and the Wilderness Lodge for 5 nights. But we never rent a car and rely solely on WDW transportation to get around.

Will guest services forward our luggage for us (whether for a fee or not, no big deal) or do we have to manage this ourselves and get a taxi?

Your input will be appreciated.

Disney will move your luggage. Just call Bell services a bit before you are ready to leave and tell them you are moving to the WL. They will take the luggage. You can then go do what you want for a while and then in the afternoon go check in at WL. Your luggage will be there. When you get your room you can call for the luggage to be brought up.

I should have mentioned that I did indeed contact WDW and ask them this very question and I was surprised to hear that "absolutely not, getting your luggage from one resort to another is completely your responsibility." She was pretty darn snippy about it too.

Thus this post. I could have sworn I had read that a number of you had no problem with guest services or bell services getting your luggage from point A to point B with no problem.

Is it perhaps that I am referring to moving from Pop Century to Wilderness Lodge and because it's a value resort, they offer bare bones amenities?

I guess, these days, anything is possible with Disney!!! I have never heard of anyone being refused. Perhaps try calling the WL and asking them. The manager there might have another opinion as I am sure they want you to arrive in a good mood! :) Hopefully others on this board have more experience with this.

We've considered renting a car, but we've thought it'd be more of a nuisance than a help. In fact, we'd never use it beyond getting from the airport and back. It would otherwise sit in the parking lot.

Besides, the cost was always a factor as well. Taking a towncar was always much more effective money wise.

 New policy or just a nasty, snippy person? I have never heard of luggage transferring being a problem. Once, I transferred luggage to a resort we weren't staying at because we wanted to have our last dinner there and have the towncar pick us up after dinner! We told Bell Services this was our plan, they didn't blink (we tipped everyone well.)

Getting a taxi as a backup plan is simple enough, but I don't think using bell services should be a problem unless there has been a big policy change!

This summer we split our stay between the WL and the GF with no problems. We did not have a car and guest services did an excellent job of transferring our luggage.

This makes me nervous now, because this spring we are staying 4 nights at the Pop Century to try it out, then 3 at the Cont. I hope the Pop Century guest services are co-operative. Please post something after your stay and let us know!

We are splitting our stay between YC and WL. When I made the reservation in October, the CM told me that the luggages will be transferred for us and just to let the front desk know the night before we check out of YC.

I was told by 2 different and both VERY FRIENDLY cast members that they will indeed transfer our luggage for us on our upcoming trip. Hopefully you just got a crabby one - From what I've heard from everyone else, it shouldn't be a problem.

Just thought I'd mention:

I called Disney (1407wdisney) on this very subject and was told that transfering luggage was not a problem. I was told to call the front desk the night before check out to remind them of the transfer I need. Then on the morning of, I'm to bring my luggage to the front desk, give it to a bell hop person, and tell them where it needs to go. Luggage isn't garunteed to be at the destination resort until after 3 pm, so if you need bathing suits, etc., put those items in a small bag and carry it around all day.

I'm hoping for a smooth transfer as this will be my first time staying at 2 Disney resorts in one trip.

Good luck RickinNYC!

I'd call back and be sure to talk to a different CM. We considered this option for an upcoming trip and I was also told that the luggage could be transferred free of charge. Be sure to use their toll-free number when you call. Here's the number in case you don't have it: 877-939-3732

TTFN!

We have split our trip only one time and indeed the resorts transferred out luggage. But that was 2 kids ago! So needless to say with three kids 6 and under we need to stay put. If it were up to my DH we would stay put in NJ. ( bit that's a whole nother thread!) Rick, it really will not be a problem. I say go for it. It really is like having 2 vacations in 1. Enjoy!

We split our stay this August between OKW and the WL... We called
the "magic luggage fairys" as a friend put it, and the bellmen came right
away, took our new resort information, and put that onto the tags to go.
They're special tags specifically for resort transfers.
Later that day, we called the bell stand at WL, and the stuff was indeed
there. Had the bellman run it up.
We're switching resorts this Dec/Jan -we extended a day to get decent
airfares out of Chicago... so's we'll probably do it again....
the process was absolutely painless.

have fun!!!

OK, this was 6 years ago, but we split our stay between All Star Sports and the Swan, and the luggage was transferred for us. If they don't do it for you, why not get a cab? This must be a new policy, but not one that I like to hear about since I'm contemplating doing another split holidya next year between POR and Beach Club.

I have a hard time believing that they changed the policy on this. I imagine that you talked to someone that was new, or maybe they misunderstood and thought you were staying off-site. It's worth another call, and I'd be sure to tell them about your previous phone call.

We're staying at CSR and GF in December and plan on doing this so hopefully there will be no problems.

I just got back on 11/13/03. Had my luggage move from AK to YC with no problem. The morning we checked out of AK we called bell service and told them we're moving to YC with 5 pc of luggage. They came up, tageed the luggage and told us it would be at the YC between 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM.
We took the 1st bus that came for a park, got off that bus and picked up the bus for YC. We checked in at the YC and our room was ready at 11:00 AM. We went to Downtown Disney did some shopping, by the time we got back our luggage was at the YC.

we have done this many many many times with no problems we stay at a moderate first then switch to a luxury

After doing quite a bit of online research, we're almost definitely going to split our stay. Honestly, I had absolutely no idea just how much money one can save staying at a value, then staying at a delux the latter portion of the vacation. We always just did moderate the entire time, or deluxe.

Whether they transfer our luggage for us, of if we have to grab a cab, we're going to do it.

I prefer to think that I spoke to a crabby CM who didn't get a chance to have her caffiene soak in yet.
