Question About Shade in Lines

Hi, I am now taking an injectible medication that makes me extremely photosensitive (which is kind of a problem since I am extremely fair skinned already). I always use the highest possible sun protection sunscreen, wear a hat and cover up as much as possible. But I anticipate getting a nasty sunburn if I need to wait outside in an unshaded line. I will be (as usual) in a wheelchair, but I am worried about sun exposure now.

Does anyone have any ideas about how to handle this? Oh, and I will need to take the medication with me to the parks, and I would like to know if there would be a problem leaving it (and the needles) at the first aid stations?

I really appreciate this board, and find that everyone on here is so incredibly helpful.

Thank you!

I believe we have a section on this in the FAQ, just click on the link in my signature. You can get a GAC that lets the CMs know that you need to wait out of the sun.

some hints:
- take an umbrella for instant shade
- never stop in the sun - always move to the shade and tell you party in advance that this WILL be your policy
- get the GAC and use it!

here is a link to a post about sun protection

teri already answered the question about waiting in the sun, so I'll answer the medication one. First Aid will store medication for you. It would be best to have it in some sort of container so it can all be kept together (medication and syringes).

Teri and Sue, I really appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions. It is MUCH appreciated. And I know it will help ease my mind and make things easier for me on our next trip.

Sue, do you think I should pre-fill the syringes and just bring them to the First Aid Center? Or would it be best to bring them separately? I've never had to manage the injectible stuff before, only various pills, so I am a little nervous about doing it right.

Thanks again!

I would probably not prefill them. There are some medications that are not stable for long periods of time in the plastic syringe, outside of their bottles. You might want to ask your pharmacist.
The other thing to think about is if you have any problems with the syringe and you only have that one filled one, you won't have a way to get your medication dose without going back to your hotel.
You'll do fine and if you do have problems, the nurses at First Aid were very nice.
