Question about selling

We have 61 points at VB, which we bought sight unseen (sort of dumb), and now know it was a mistake. I keep reading that CR might become a DVC resort, and DH says we can't have points in 3 places. Do the experts here at the DIS think we should call MS to sell the points, or is there a better option?

Whether selling those points is right for you depends on many factors. However, you can't sell through DVC or MS, you must sell on your own possibly through a broker. Since you have 3 contracts, I wouldn't think selling just because it's VB is not necessarily a reasonable option. But if you want a new announced resort and need the dollars to buy, it may be a good choice. Consider however that you're likely going to sell those points at $60-70 per point, pay the commission on them reducing your net to maybe $3500 cash. That would buy you about 35-40 new points at VCR or AKL if they come on board. And while I think the points tables will match up with the current ones, many feel it would require more points at those new potential options per unit than the ones we have now. Depending on what else you have, you might actually be better off selling one of your other contracts than VB.

Again, too many variables for us to even remotely tell you what to do, just trying to give you somethings to help you think about it. If you post more specifics I'm sure we can add some additional insight.

Just looking for opinions at this point. Thanks, Dean
My pleasure, I hope it works out.

If it were me, I'd just use the VB points to stay at WDW - if you call at 7 months, you're bound to get in somewhere, even at some of the more popular times.

I think you will lose too much money to sell and buy somewhere else. The VB contracts do not bring as much per point as the on site resorts and unless you can find your own buyer, you're going to be paying a commission to a broker as well.

Best wishes -

I agree with the above posts. Unless you are dead set on staying at a peak week, at a different resort, I would just keep them and book at the 7 month mark. I think the loss you take between selling the existing contract and buying the new contract at a higher point cost for a new resort makes it not worth selling.

It seems to me it comes down to booking window and time of year!
