I have a question about renting points. If I were to rent points from another DVC member, having that member make my resrvation, and cannot make the trip, what are my options? Can I rerent the points or possibly sell the reservation? Is it possible to get trip insurance for a point rental based vacation? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Larry

What happens if you can't make it is between you and the member you rent from. You would not be able to change names on the reservation as you have no access to it, only the member that made the reservation can change anything.

If you think there is any possibility of having to cancel, the smart approach to take would be to have the other member transfer the points to your account. Then, you would have more flexibility, and both you and the other owner would have less risk.

You should have been given a contract to sign from the owner. It should explain the cancellation policy. You can purchase trip insurance to cover cancellations, but you need to have a contract.

Yes, trip insurance is available for DVC reservations - but it might not cover the cost of the rental so you'd want to check that in advance.

The member you rent from would need to assist with any re-rental or re-use of those points in the event that you would need to cancel. Many members who rent have a no cancellation policy, so if that is a concern it might be better to look for someone with a more flexible policy. If cancelling is a likelyhood, it may be best to just rent thru Disney directly since they do have a pretty generous refund policy for cancellations.

Good luck!

Thanks to all that replied. Lots of good advice that will help me decide what to do.
