Question About Portable Water Misters

I apologize if this has been asked very recently.

I'm going to WDW in the middle of August, and I'd like to know if anyone has any recommendations for water misters. Or if you would recommend them at all. I'm talking about the battery powered ones with fans.

I know you can buy them at WDW, but at about $21, that's $63 my family can use for something else!

Does anyone have any suggestions on where to get them for less expensive? Online places would especially be helpful.

Thanks in advance! :goodvibes

We didn't think we needed them this past June. We were wrong (sort of:rolleyes:). It was so crazy hot so we bought them for our kids. They are actually about $15-$16 a piece. They did use them, but they were a pain in the butt to carry around. Not to mention that our kids managed to fight each other with them (but that is another story:headache:). In the really hot weather, I think they are worth it. One of ours stopped working after 1 day and a CM happily replaced it. We passed them off to a new family checking in at our resort on the day we were checking out.

I bought a 3-pack of Misty Mate's at BJ's Wholesale. One is the larger type that you can hook on your waistband and the other 2 are the handheld type. We love them.

Same with last poster, we bought a three pack at BJ's and they are nice and slim so that it would easily fit in a back pack or purse.
My only worry is filling them back up with water. I am not crazy about using drinking fountains or water from the bathroom sinks b/c of all the germs esp knowing we are going to be spraying our faces....:confused3

No different than drinking the water, which is what one does from a water fountain, right? That's where we fill the water bottles we carry with us to drink.

We were also thinking about getting at least one of these for our trip next month. I'll probably get one at WalMart.

I also recommend the Misty Mates. Small and portable, lightweight and no batteries to contend with. Just pump it up and press the button for a light mist. No fan, but also much less hassle, in my opinion. We loved them for our last trip in July 2007, and they will be returning with us this trip in August!

Here is the perfect solution for water misters/fans. Those mister fans are just a pain to lug around the park on a hot day. So what we did is go to Walmart and bought small little hand held fans for 99 cents. They run on two double A batteries I think. Then we purchased small travel size spray bottles (like for hairspray) for about 50 cents (or maybe 75 cents). Both the fan and the little spray bottles fit perfectly in a cargo pocket or a waist pack. They are light weight and easy to carry around. Work great at cooling a person off on a hot day and only for $1.50 per person.

Wal-Mart has the fans for $8 a fan but Bjs probably the best deal. But you will need the for August it is very hot and I am from Florida.

I just purchased 3 little O2 fan/misters today at Dick's sporting goods. They were about $5.00 a piece and clip on to your shorts or backpack. I think they'll do the trick for a little cooling off without lugging the big ones around. Plus each child can have their own to use as they need.

I will have to go there and take a look. I would love to get one of these kind. The larger ones are way too heavy and cumbersome, IMO. I had a small one year ago, but I broke it and have been looking for something similar every since.

But no matter what size you have, if you are touring together, I think one per tour group is plenty. :)

I would love one that could clip to something, or I could wear around my neck on one of those water-bottle-holding lanyards. We don't do Wal-mart, but the one at Dick's sounds good. I'll have to check it out! :)

Oddly enough, I found the really small clip on misters at Staples near me, for about $4 each. Good gift bag stuffers for my nieces! So I'd also recommend checking there if you have one nearby.

We got our O2 Cool based on some recommendations from the fellow DISers on the boards in 2007. I bought them at a local drug store (I don't remember if it's Walgreens/CVS/Duane Reade) for around $5. They are small to carry and the clip on is a plus!:thumbsup2 We filled ours with bottled water (before we drank it) every morning before we head out to the parks since DBf does not like the FL water taste and for hygienic reasons.

Here's a picture of our fan:

Thank you for posting that picture. The O2 coolers look perfect. I'll look at CVS this week. I hope it's not too late in the season for such things. I'll also look online.

I have to vote for the park misters. Too heavy?? Only keep them half full. The snack carts/counter service will fill with ice for you -clean ice. I tried the BJ misters, might as well dump hot mist on yourself. Plus if the park misters batteries run out - return it and get a new one, the blade breaks, return it and get a new one.

Put a couple of face cloths from your room in a ziplock bag. Wipe your face and neck with the ice water from the fan. Find a cart and refill.

I don't see the sense in buying more than one fan per family. We don't.
