Question about points

When you rent out point and someone asks if you would be able to help them out--how long do you give them to confirm that they want them? Example: I have x amount of points--someone wants x amount of them--you reply--how long do you give them to reply back?

I wouldn't give them too long, probably not over a couple of days. I haven't rented much, but it has happened that I gave someone information, even spent time checking with Member Services for availability in multiple combinations, and after letting them know, never heard any response from them at all. Some people just aren't as polite as you would wish.

And, unfortunately, some people want it for free, or are just jerking you around.

Maybe it would help to say "Here is your info, if I don't hear from you in x amount of time, I'll assume you are not interested."

I have given folks 24 hours when I have rented out points. Of course this year I am in rental mode, so I am trying to respond to folks proffering points as quickly as possible out of consideration.

My thought is to tell them you will hold the points for 24 - 48 hours (or whatever you feel comfortable with) and after that it will depend on when someone else makes an offer/sends in the deposit.

If your objective is to turn the points into cash, waiting a long time for someone to make up their minds (and turning down others with cash in hand) is just not a good idea.

I would not specifically give them any time. If someone emailed me and said they wanted to rent points, I'd tell them my terms and availability. If someone emailed 10 minutes later and we reached an agreement, the points would be gone. If the first person them emailed back with further interest, I'd simply tell them I'd used or rented the points. Until a deal is made, there is no responsitiblity to hold the points unless BOTH parties create one.
