Question about planning trip for Nov 07

Yahoo! We passed ROFR so should be in the DVC system in about a month or so. Now I have a question about planning for our November 2007 trip at Thanksgiving.

We'll get 170 BCV points (February use year) when the sale closes. We'll need approximately 237 for our November 2007 trip. Should I rent out the 2006 points, and use 2007 points and borrow 2008 points for our stay? The reason I am considering renting some points out this year is that we could use the cash to help pay for the DVC purchase and not make it feel like such a huge drain to our finances. My question is, if I do this, can I still call to make a ressie in December 2006 for a November 2007 booking, using points that will show up in February 2007 and February 2008? Will MS let me do that if all of my 2006 points are gone?

Thanks for your help. I've been reading the boards for ages, and it all seemed easy enough to figure out, but now that the points are almost mine, I have to really figure it out!

Yes you can do it. For the November 2007 trip you would be able to borrow your February 2008 points if you don't have enough 2007 points. If you rented out your 2006 points, you would have to borrow the 2008 to do what you plan.

While I wouldn't rent out this year's ponts only to borrow down the road, only you can answer what you can or should do financially.

A simple way to think of it is that you always make your reservation up to 11-months ahead of your check out date, no matter what use year the points will be coming from.

The vacation dates themselves determine the use year required. Your Use Year month is February, so a November 2007 vacation falls within your 2007 Use Year (Feb 1, 2007 - Jan 31, 2008)

So you would need to use 2007 year points. There are three sources for 2007 points: 1) Regular Feb 2007 allocation, 2) Banked 2006 points, 3)Borrowed 2008 points.

No matter when you call, you can still do any banking or borrowing necessary to make your reservation, banking or borrowing points from the previous or following use years into the use year required for the actual vacation dates themselves.
