Question about payments

I’ve just realized I don’t know how this works. We are in the process of waiting to get our member ID for our first purchase (resale). When we go to book our first stay, when we add tickets, do we pay for the tickets at that time or does Disney let you make payments like they do on a package?

Buying tickets is a separate transaction from your DVC reservation made on the DVC site. You pay in full when making the purchase of tickets from Disney, usually using the ticket section of your My Disney Experience account. As far as any discounts go, currently the only DVC discount for tickets is for Annual Passes, which currently you cannot buy at all. Once in great while, there may be DVC discounts for some other park tickets.

A site often used by many DVC members to purchase tickets other than annual passes is undercovertourist.com which usually has some discounts for multi-day tickets.

As @drusba said, purchasing tickets is completely separate from using your DVC ownership to book a resort. You have the option to buy direct from Disney or to buy discounted tickets from one of the authorized resellers, of which there are several. Either way, you have to pay for them in full at time of purchase.

If you buy through these resellers does it still link to MDE?

When you buy from a reseller, you will get a code number (or actual paper tickets with numbers on them) that you then link to MDE. No problem at all, very easy to do - as long as you make sure that each person uses the ticket you linked to them and they don’t get mixed up !
