I have a Nikon N50 35 mm camera and am going to buy a Nikon D60 today. My question is this: will the 2 lenses I have for my N50 work with my D60. The lenses are not Nikon lenses, but they are Nikon compatible (duh, that's why it on the camera--haha). I also have a polarization cap, which is on the N50 right now.

Just wanting to know how much more investment will go into this camera.

Also, should the external flash I bought work?

And as far as memory cards, I was thinking of getting 2 16GB memory cards. Is that enough, too much?

Mostly I will be photographing churches--dh and I are planning on doing a history photography book of churches in South Carolina. TIA!

Well, I will say, I see that the camera only supports up to 8GB panasonic cards. So, I'm thinking I will start with 3-4 4GB cards and then see where that gets me. . .

Unfortunately, I don't think your old lenses will autofocus on the D60, it doesn't have a built in focus motor- the flash may work but not TTL. I don't know how much more the D80 is than the D60 these days but older lenses will autofocus on it. 4Gb cards should be plenty sufficient. With my D80(10mp) set on fine/large I get 700+ pictures on a 4GB card. I have a D50 and a D80 and my old lenses from my N8008 work with both- my old SB-24 flash works but not TTL. One thing I did learn is that with the older lenses 35mm isn't near wide enough. I started with the D50 and used my old lenses. I soon figured out I really needed something with 18mm at the wide end. I bought a Quantaray 18-125mm and it was great. On my D80 I have the kit lens which is 18-135mm. Very useful focal length.
Good luck!

I would be very cautious about using older model flashes on these newer cameras. It's possible they use different voltages and it could "fry" your new camera.

Yes, you should be careful with older flashes. The camera's manual will tell you which ones are compatible. My SB-24 is listed in my cmameras manual as working with the camera, although not TTL. You shouldn't mess with one that isn't listed, to be safe.

Thanks for your help. I went ahead and got a second lens. I will wait a little on getting a flash until I've played around with the camera a bit. I also got a 8GB memory card. I have 2 4GB and 3 2GB cards, so I think I should be fine. I'll try to stick to the 8GB and one of my 4GB, however, as they are high capacity SD cards. My understanding is that helps a bit with the lag time?

Spending time with the user's manual tonight before I play around with it too much.

Sounds like you have plenty of memory cards. Which lens did you get? When you are ready for a flash, the SB600 is a nice one and it isn't very expensive. Under $200 when I bought mine last spring. There is an SB400 thats even less expensive and smaller in size that is very nice. You'll figure out what you'll need(and want) as you use it. Lag time shouldn't be an issue.
Enjoy! :)
