I was just wondering what the MLK weekend is that I hear everyone talking about. We will be down there from Jan 17th till Jan 25th and I was hoping it would be a slow weekend. If someone could just let me know what MLK stands for, that would be great!!!

martin luther king...celebrating his birthday, most have monday the 19th off.

We always go over MLK weekend, it is crowded but not as bad as the summer. IMHO the crowds taper off on Monday because everyone is going home. This year I was lucky enough to schedule our trip startin Jan 22 so we will miss the MLK weekend crowd. IMHO this is the best time of year to visit WDW.::MinnieMo

Becca Boo.. the 17th, 18, & 19th will be crowded. My kids have a 4 day weekend off of school, and since they already missed a few days in October, we thought this was a better time to go for them. We were at WDW on Martin Luther King weekend once before, when I didnt know what I was doing yet. It was either our first or 2nd trip. We were in Magic Kingdom and it was just wall to wall people!!! You could barely get through the people and strollers by Peter Pan and Its a small world. I think we rode 4 rides that day, and ended up leaving. We just kept walking and walking, looking for a ride with a wait less than an hour. We are used to low January crowds, and no lines, but that day was awful. Ive since learned my lesson! I avoid MK on Saturday's now, and Sunday's since that is now their extra magic hour. besides hopping over to MK on Saturday, jan 17th at night to see specto, we will avoid MK the entire weekend. They are showing Specto again on tuesday and you will be there the next weekend too!

I think there is some sort of big convention in Orlando starting on the 18th or so. I've been working to put together a last minute trip on MLK weekend and have had a heck of time getting accomodations on property because everything is sold out! I do have some at ASMo in case nothing else opens up. Never stayed there, but am sure it will be fine...quick 2 night trip.

We were there 2 years ago on MLK weekend and it was great - fairly light crowds.

Everything on property is sold out on the 18th??? Thats not sounding too good then!! Looks like it might not be a 'light crowds' weekend!!!

I just checked the Disney site (which is actually working today!) and it said the POLY and BW have rooms. Also ASMU, but I didn't check any others.

Good Luck!
