I've been using mineral make-up for a few years now. For about the last year I've used Physician's Formula base. I do not use eye shadow on a regular basis - probably only a few times a year.

I'm wondering if I have developed an allergy to the makeup. Over the last few months (probably starting in the summer) my eyes have progressively become red & a little swollen at times. They have started to water over the last 2 months or so & now I have what looks like red/burn spots on the outside corners of my eyes. I'm not sure if this is from the watery eyes & me dabbing at the moisture or what. I thought the watering was possibly from the cold weather in our area, but now I'm not so sure.

Has anyone had an allergic reaction to mineral makeup & if you have what have you switched to? I really like the mineral powders so if I can find one that would be more sensitive to my skin I'll pay the price & use it.

I've had an allergic reaction to a different type of foundation, not mineral foundation. My entire face itched and turned red. Since your reaction seems to be limited to your eye area, I wonder if it's something else. I do get watery eyes from other allergies, and the outside corner of my eye gets red and irritated from the frequent tissue dabbing.

I don't know if that's the cause of it, but I started out using Physician's Formula, and it made my skin itchy. Reviews on Makeup Alley said a lot of people had the same problem. I've used everydayminerals.com and really liked their product.

Check the ingredients for Bismuth. It is a common irritant in many mineral foundations. I had that problem with Bare Essencuals (spelling?) and it was horrible on my face. It actually burned my skin to the point I had to go with no makeup for about 10 days. :scared1:

There are several indie mineral companies that don't use Bismuth. I prefer Meow Cosmetics, but there are many. They are generally cheaper too and have websites that offer a ton of color matching and other assistance directly from the ladies/men making the product.

Good luck in your search! Hope you find what it is you are reacting to.

I switched to Pur Minerals once and broke out in little teeny bumps all over my face! :scared1: Switched back to Bare Minerals and have had no problems since.

I tried Bare Minerals a few years ago & had a pretty immediate allergic reaction. My doctor said it was probably mica or some type of calcium component in the makeup - I am severely allergic to fish & shellfish & he said these things are sometimes made from byproducts.

I've had good luck with Clinique's WorkOut Makeup, but I currently use a foundation from a little boutique in my town. They carry a custom brand and I love it, but to my knowledge it is not available elsewhere.

I used to use bare minerals but about 7 months ago I had a severe reaction to it. We already know that I am severely allergic to lanolin and parabens so we think I developed a new allergy. I have tried 4 other makeup brands (including natural, vegan makeups) and I still have a reaction. I am getting more chemical testing done this coming week to find out.

I had the worst allergic reaction on my eyes from waterproof mascara remover when I was about 18 and after that, even now, anything with a frost finish near my eyes triggers trouble. My rash sounds exactly like that, it was awful but for me it lasted months because I kept doing it not realizing what was triggering it. even now I can't have anything frost like on my face like with the shimmer products. bare minerals matte is ok, the others aren't. are you using any kind of makeup removers, could be that

bare minerals and pur minerals make my face itch, but i can use mineral hygienics without much itching. MH is supposed to be bismuth and talc free, but i suspect there must be trace amounts in it, because i have very sensitive skin and still itch a little.

I don't use any makeup removers. Just a Eucerin mild cleanser, which I've used for a few years now also. I don't use waterproof mascara just for that reason. I don't want to be bothered with makeup remover.

I was allergic to bare minerals, it made me break out and itchy. I switched over to everdayminerals and haven't had any problems. The makeup stays on much better and lasts forever.

I can wear both Bare Minerals and Clinique foundations. However, I can't wear Clinique's eyeshadows or Bare Mineral's eyeshadows--however, I can wear their eye "glimmers". Weird, I know. I can wear all other store brands of eyeshadow like Maybelline etc. eyeshadows. Not sure what it is about those 2 brands.

Can you stop everything for a while and switch to plain soap so your skin can rest? If you can manage a break and your eyes still water without makeup & lotion it might be allergies to something in the air. If the watering goes away once you lose the products all you have to do is figure out which one is the issue or, my method, throw both out and buy new packages because it might be something got contaminated.... icky but it happens.

Feel better
